My 2 mth old cried and screamed a lot the other day. After that his voice has changed and it sounds like he has a soar throat. His voice has become heavy and when he cries he sounds a big boy!

Can such little babies get soar throat?

My son caught strep at 4 months. Babies can get strep or pharyngitis, though its not super common. Mine cried non stop after the 2nd day and began refusing to eat (swallowing hurt, I'm sure) so since it was over the weekend I took him into the ER where they kept telling me he was just "teething." I insisted that I wasn't going home empty handed, my baby was sick, and they sent me home with antibiotics. Monday when I followed up with his ped, he took one look in his mouth and DX'd him. Told me that it was one of the worst cases he'd ever seen in a child that young, and this was after 2 days of antibiotics! He said that my insistance that something was really wrong with him and getting the antibiotics saved him from being hospitalized that day. So go with your gut when it comes to stuff like that! They can't tell us what's wrong, but you know your baby better than anyone else and have to speak up for him!

He could have just strained his vocal cords. Just keep an eye on if he's having any trouble eating or swallowing, and look for the normal signs of infection, fever, tired (sleeping more than normal can be hard to diagnose in a baby who probably sleeps most of the time anyway). At that age his immunity may not be good enough to keep an infection away so take him in if he developes a fever. Your boy is kind of in the grey a little bit, any infant under 2 months needs to see a doctor right away if they get a fever (they don't have good immunity at that point, no needles and there own immunity hasn't fully kicked in).
If he's eating find, no fever or other signs of illness than it's most likely he just strained his cords. Just like adults do if they yell and scream a lot.

My 43 day old grandson developed "Thrush" in his mouth..and had to have antibiotics for 12 days..He cried alot and there was a bit of whitish color in his mouth..after starting the anti- we could tell he felt alot better!
Look in mouth and see if you can spot anything...hope this helps you out some!

He does have a white coating on his toungue. I called his nurse and she said it could be thrush and as long as he is eating fine we dont do anything about it.

For his throat also they asked me to watch for any eating, breathing problem or if he develops any fever. The nurse asked me put a humidifier in his room and since yesterday i think his throat is much better.

Anyway's he has his 2 mth appt today so doc will check him out. He is going to get 4 shots today. Are their any side effects of the shots like fever, swelling?

I am a first time mom and get nervous easily. Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

4 shots? hopefully it'll be combined into 1 needle and you don't mean 4 seperate needles.
There are some side effects although they don't tend to last long or be sever...for most kids. There can be some pain and swelling at the site (usually not too sever), and fever and generally not feelin well. For this most doctors will recomend you give tylenol....you should give it at the same time as the needles or 10-15 min before if you can, the doctor can tell you what dose to give your baby. Continue to give for atleast 1-2 more doses just to be on the safe side. Although none of my 3 kids had a bad reaction to it you should make sure you ask your doctor what specificly the normal verses the abnormal reactions are just to be sure that you know what to be worried about and what not to be.

Hi. If you have any suspicions of sickness in a newborn, just get him to the doctor. An infection can start and you just can't take the chance of it progressing. Never feel like you're being silly or overconcerned. One thing I learned having a baby is that the doctor is there for you and your baby and never feel like you are inconveniencing anyone. Make that call mom!!
