well, metaphorically speaking (so I can't spell...)
I was told I would smell things better, but noone told me things could smell WORSE! Certain foods seem to smell and taste bad these days. I bought some gingerale today for my tummy (upset from pain pills) and it tastes like bubbly water. It has been over a month now-the only change I really notice is my sinus quit dripping and I quit coughing.
What are your experiences?

let me say, stuff that used to taste good isn't anymore and this is the first time I have had ginger ale, so I really don't even know how it is supposed to taste anyway!

Mel...
Glad you brought this up..
I've never noticed how sensitive my sense of smell has become when quitting, till I quit this time. But for me, I didn't notice any of this until about 6 to 8 months after I quit. Certain scents/smells seem highly magnified to me. Sausage cooking, (puke) when I take walks, and ppl are burning wood in their fireplaces, that really starts to get to be too much. The other day, I told my dh that he had too much after shave on. He said, no more than he wore before, (and yet I always liked it, before) Has anyone else noticed this? It's been bugging me. My sense of taste seems the same though.

I guess I will have to check back in eight months and see if I too had mine heightened. Will be interesting to find out what I used to like actually repels me! :)

know what ya mean, Mel. ;) You better not take off from here! It's nice to see some daily posters again. :) Do you notice yet that your sense of smell is sharper? I guess the smoking over many years, really messes up our sense of smell, and taste...among other things too.

no, not yet. But I will say it is getting harder to be in places with lots of smoke. One cig burning smells so good, but more than that and I get sickly, my eyes burn and my throat hurts.
I will say this though, usually when I get a cold, it lasts forever. I mean the full ten days and then some. I got a cold a little over a week ago, and it did it's normal throat irritation, sneezing. then it moved to stuffy nose, then to chest cold. BUT, instead of the full ten or so days, it was gone in less than FIVE! that was the shortest cold I can remember! It was so great to just wake up and it was gone. I would go through two packs of day meds and two packs of night meds usually during a course, but this time, I used maybe four pills total! More at night, but that was just more for the sleep factor since, uh, like tonight, I was staying up late. It still amazes me.

That's wonderful, Mel, about your last cold. I notice the same every time I have quit in the past. My colds used to go long too, coughing, still weeks after it started. Hopefully no more.
Yes, no what ya mean about smelling smoke. It does the same to my eyes too, and it's just so irritating to me now. Probably always was, but I didn't care. I remember, when I smoked, it was always getting in one of my eyes, and it would blind me, momentarily. I wouldn't be able to open my eye, then it would tear,,,and I'd go right on smoking! Sometimes if I walk past one person smoking, it will smell good, sometimes not. Most of the time not, thank goodness. :) It all depends I guess on what my mood is. I'm hardly ever exposed to it now. When we go to the casinos, is about the only time. :)
I'm a nightowl too, Mel. ;)

oh gosh, the casinos are the WORST. Stale smoke and a lot of it. Especially bad when I sit down to the penny slots and there is someone next to me smoking. That is just not good. I feel horrible now, knowing how I must have made so many people feel. But, I can't get too down on myself either. I managed to quit, so now it is just payback time, eh? :) not canadian btw
I remember the first day I was cutting down. I went to one of the local casinos and left my smokes in the car to see how hard it would be, and it wasn't at all. I never smoked in one again after that. I had a dream the other night that I found a lonely little cigarette in my purse, and I spent all day trying to decide if I should smoke it or not. I don't think I ever decided before my dream ended.
It is funny, I am so tired and in pain, but I don't want to go to sleep! I better though, gotta take the cat to the vet.
I will check in tomorrow. Have a great night!
