Bummer. I used to be like that when I was in my early 20's, but by the time I was in my late 20's, hit my 30's, and now 42, my periods last three and a half days and are only heavy on the second day. I think I am pretty luck compared to some other women.

Some women just have heavier periods. I know my sister-in-law at age 50 is still on the pill because hers are still so heavy! She had her tubes tied after the birth of her second child and her periods got worse after that.

Don't you just love the female body? No rhymn or reason to why it does the things it does.

Have you asked your doctor or had any tests run to make sure there's nothing physical going on that could cause your heavy bleeding?

It is definitely not normal to have to change your tampon every 45 minutes. Have you been checked for fibroids?

hi border yes ive been checked for that, neg!! ive had ultrasounds and such done but this is something ive had since i was 13 and got my first period!!!! this month was terrible but ironically today i hardly bled at all and yesterday was the messiest!!! funny thing is i have suffered with terrible cramps but this month i did nt have 1 at all and u would think with this type of flow id be doubled over!! my moms the same way. its not always that bad but i usually cant go more than 2 hrs on my heaviest day without leakage!

If you are done having kids , you could ask your doctor about Endometreal Ablation. i had heavy periods that got worse after all my kids nad they did every test know and they were all neg. then i switched docs nad the new one told me about this nad i have been down to 2 days of light spotting since aug. of this year. it really helped me and worth lookng into.

I had a Novasure procedure done{removed} .
it is were they go in the uterus and burn the lining away, i think it takes like 30 sec to a minute, but i had it done at the hospital and was under general anesthia(sp?). they also did a D and C too before.
i ws very cramppy for the first day and nothing after except a pink watery discharege for about 5 weeks. since then i have gotten 2 periods and it was only light spotting for 2 days each. some women never get it again but just have the PMS. i am very happy with and mad that i wait so long to do it
One other thing , you hace to be sure no do not want any more kids as with this it burns away the lining.

There are special diets for women w/ fibroids and/or heavy bleeding. I have both, and I get anemia. The diets are strict & hard to follow but they are less scary than the surgery options!!

Have you ever been told by your Dr. that your uterus is enlarged? If so, you could have Adenomyosis. Heavy irregular periods with severe cramping are symptoms of Adenomyosis. Adenomyosis is like endometriosis of the uterus.

no ive never talked to my doc about that but i do know i have a tilted uterus if that makes any difference! i believe it was mentioned before that my uterus is a bit large because i had an u/s done a couple yrs back and the tech asked if my period was due around that time and it was cause he said the uterus was quite large.
