I'm not sure what is going on and would appreciate some advice. I missed 2 periods in a row. Within a week of my third period, I started bleeding. It began with a normal flow, but quickly progressed to extremely heavy with severe cramping. I had to have a medical abortion last year and it was very close to what happened then - extemely heavy flow, a great deal of tissue and matter and severe cramping. My suspicion is that I miscarried or otherwise expelled a pregnancy. My problem is that the flow never stopped. It has been over 4 weeks now, and the flow has sometimes slowed to spotting, other times increased to more than that, but less than tampon flow and occassional discharge of matter. The blood itself varies from fresh red to old brown/copper color. I have experienced cramping off and on - nothing severe. At no point has there been a stop in flow, however. It has now started to flow much like my normal period again, with moderate cramping, again like my regular period. I'm also experiencing some weakness and dizzyness, which I expect may be anemia, so I have begun taking iron pills. Has anyone else had this experience? Should I be concerned or am I worrying unneccessarily? I am 34 years old, in good health and shape and up until this point have never had any major problems with my periods. I would appreciate any help.

I would call your doctor and go in for an evaluation. It certainly isn't normal to bleed and continue to spot for that long of a time. It could be anything...from a hormone imbalance to a miscarriage. Try not to worry, but call your doctor just to put your mind at ease.
