I was recently prescribed Neurontin. Would everyone who is taking this medication or who has taken it in the past please share your experience with it? Also, could you tell me how long it took before you started seeing side effects and what kinds you experienced? Thank you in advance.

Hi, Ginger:
I've been on 900 mg./day of Neurontin for 2 years now. I started due to menstrual migraines and then frequent migraines not related to my period. It's been wonderful for me. Yes, I still get headaches, mainly during my period, but they're so much more manageable now...a few Excedrin Migraine and the headache is gone.
My experience with Neurontin was, at the beginning, it made me very sleepy. My doctor started me out with 100 mg. at bedtime for a few days, then we upped it to 200 mg. at bedtime, etc., until we reached 900 mg. in about one month's time. Now I take 300 mg. mid-morning and 600 mg. at bed time. No side effects at all.
I would say to give it at least one month to take effect...just an estimate because we're all so different.
Good luck with it. Let us know how it works for you.

As you probably know, Neurontin was originally approved by the FDA as an anti-seizure medication. Since then, it has been prescribed for other conditions, and I think that the FDA is going to (if not already done) approve it for other conditions. I was prescribed N for peripheral neuropathy. It has also helped my tinnitus, and headaches.
I too take from 600-900mg/day. At first, I kind of got a slightly goofy feeling when I took it, but now that has gone away. I have taken it for ~7 months. Some take up to 4000mg/day (yikes). I also get kind of ill or grouchy, when I miss more than a day w/o it. Like I didn't have any yesterday due to a mix up between the pharm and I. Yet, I don't think that I would have any problems stopping it, if I were to have to. Good luck, and I hope it helps you :)
