View Full Version : Strange lump in the neck

A couple of years ago I noticed a hard lump at the back of my neck, but most noticable when i lay down, I was having a lot of dizziness at that time, and when i pressed it , the dizziness got worse. The lump seems to 'protrude' (if thats the right word) to the right, and it is hard like a large egg. Its not visible, but now it seems, when I lie down I can feel something insidemy head, and have noticed feelings of tenderness and soreness in areas inside my head also.
I am housebound with agrophobia, anxiety and depression, so ive been unable to get a home visit from my doctor, (in fact i gave up asking them after a while from getting nowhere with them, all I wanted was a proper complete physical check-up), and simply cannot get there either, so im confined to the internet.

I used to have severe anxiety attacks, where i literally couldnt stand up, and constantly had to lie down for about 3 months cause of dizziness, and frequently felt i was going to faint, this has passed now(maybe the damage has been done?). The attacks on two occasions lasted for 7 hours, they were a bit like seizures.
But i wondered if its all tension related (can tension lumps go up into the head?) or whether its something more sinister.
I wondered if there was anyone with similar symptoms
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks :)

This could be a goiter caused from Hypothyroidism. I would have your blood tested.

Hi

This could also be muscle tension, I have one just at the back of the neck on the bone, I had my doctor check it out for me and he send its all muscle due to tension as I am suffering at the moment with depression/anxiety.

But to be reassured try getting your doctor to check it out for you.

Let us know how you get on

Hi

Thank you for your replies

Ive not been to the doctors yet, Im going to contact her this week though

Evonne, I thought this too, it may be tension at first, but started worrying it way be something more serious as when i pressed this lump, my anxiety/unwell feelings got worse. I hope the anxiety/depression will improve just by getting rid of the tension

xx :)

Let us know how you are doing, and what your doc said about the lump.

The reason it maybe worse when you press on it, is that the muscle could be in spasm, so any pressing or poking could aggravate it. But please get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

Take Care

Sing Blue Silver:

I had one of these also and went to a surgeon who sent me to an Outpatient Surgical Clinic, where he removed it. He said it was a "neuroma" (which I have on other nerves in my body, but smaller, and had one operated on and removed from my foot years ago) which had grown through the foramen of my spine so that only that small part of it showed on the back of my neck, but a large lump was removed....are you on meds for the anxiety? I would only say that if you are not, it might be worth working on as you know that something severe may not be able to be resolved by an in-house visit. My positive thoughts go out to you and I hope you have a good outcome!
