Hi April - I'm Beth. Welcome to board. RSD usually sets in one place and then can mirror or spread. Will need more info before we can help. Did your symptoms show up first in one spot? Was it right after giving birth? What kind of pain treatment did you have for birth? What kind of meds have you taken since symptoms have displayed? There are medicine reactions that can show like yours and can take a long time to go away. Have you had any antibiotics since pregnancy and birth? Think hard and give us a little more history and you may need to see a neurologist no matter what your history is. What kind of doctors have you seen? Come back on and share there is a great group here who will respond with help....Beth

hi beth, lovely message. my symptoms came on more or less straight away after birth, at first panic attacks again and shooting pains in legs. I had alot of itchyness down below and tingling which i still have. they dont knowwhat it is, it has just spread from there with more symptoms. ive seen a neuro and passed exam, waiting for mri. there is long waits for things like this in england. I had no pain relief in labour, found out i had group b strep in vaginAL swab, this suppose to have no symptoms. i had several anti biotics for it which dont work any way as it dont shift this, any thing else you want to ask just say, thanks

Generallly RSD comes from a nerve injury, although it can just happen without remembering any specific injury. RSD is most associated with burning or bone crushing sensations and generally affects the extremities. Of course these are just generalizations because RSD is not a well known disease, but i'm trying to get it down to the most nitty gritty I can make it for you. It could be possible that you damaged nerves during childbirth, but i'm no doctor either. The other major symptom which helps most of us RSD'ers get diagnosed is the color changes. Our skin changes to a dark blue almost black looking color when dependant. If you really think that you might possibly have RSD i'd suggest doing a search (since we can't post links here) online and take a look at some of the more informative websites out there. You'll get tons of information and that way you can see if your symptoms most closely associate with RSD or not. Definately come back and let us know what you find out though, i'm definately wondering... - Jessica

ah thanks jessica, your all so lovely on this board!! i was wondering if it was to do with nerve injury too, i had a epsiotomy. does rsd start in one place and you then get symptoms all over? cheers, love aprilx

RSd generally will start at the location of the nerve injury and can spread either slowly or quickly. Mine has taken four years to spread from my right foot all the way thru my right hip now, but i've heard others that have had spread within the first 3-6 months. The spread of RSD is either mirror spread which would mean it started in my right foot and mirrored over to my left foot, or general spread which could be from right foot to right hand or right foot to the chest wall etc..... Hope that helps. - Jessica

Hi April
I'm so sorry for your pain....what a terrible way to possibly get RSD! Congratulations on the birth of your child, by the way...but it must be hard being a Mommy with all the pain! :blob_fire
But now that you mention it, it DOES make perfect sense, since labor puts SOOOO much stress on your back and spinal cord area, and also along with your episiotomy  it's a wonder there's not millions of women suffering like you!
When you mentioned your 'creepy crawlie' feelings, I wanted to tell you that my husband Joey had that terribly when his RSD first started 21 mos ago. His was triggered by a toe surgery for Mortons Neuroma, but when they cut the nerve it triggered the RSD which settled into his ankle. He liked to describe his pain as feeling like he had maggots inside his bone eating their way out!
We have been on SUCH a roller coaster ride of drugs and therapies and specialists....my advice to you is to start keeping a good record of everything if you haven't already....every conversation, every medication and side effect, every symptom. Print out info from this and other websites....did you see the threads at the top of our page on 'Symptoms of RSD' and the 'Letter to Friends and Family'? Excellent info.
YOU are in charge of your medical care, and you need to be aggressive! Don't let them fob you off...demand action~! Demand better medication when what you have is not working! Demand that they listen to you, or find another Doctor who will! There's no more being polite, nice gals finish last. :nono:
Okay, that's my pep speech! :jester:
I hope you have a low pain day....keep us posted, we care~!
~Ange

Hi April - I posted yesterday but I must have done something wrong as it is not showing up. Could you look up the names of the antibiotics you were on for your infection. Quinolone antibiotics can play havoc like this with some people. If you post the names of them I could direct you where to go for more info, but as others have said with good advice, this could very well be RSD. It's horrible how long you all have to wait in the UK for medical treatment, fighting difficult health conditions with some form of structured medical help is hard enough let alone deal with the conditions you have to. Perhaps as we post we can help you out until you can get in...my concerns are with you...Beth

ah thanks all again, i hadnt checked my posting for few days. i went to docs yesterday to see if they can do any more. no, they said wait untill mri, next year. I said my symptoms are worse, twitching etc. She said nothing they can do untill had scan. they are baffled to whats wrong and cant put all symptoms together. i suggested fibro, she said no, even though she admitted to not knowing about it. ahe did say if scan is clear then instead of rhumi they will refer me to a bladder specialist and that its probably something neurological. is rsd neurological?? i just want to be diagnozed si i can rest!!! so tired of it all, i cryed yesterday after docs, i feel tearful now wtriting this. im so happy also as its christmas soon and excited for my little man(son). the anti biotics i had was eurythmicin?? think thats how it was spelt? i only had the vaginal irritations tingling before them. I know when i had them i had real funny back, like a deep aches, trapped wind in my back, it was real painful, it went after. love april. hope you all ok xxx
