I know in Competitions the competitors use bandages to wrap up their wrists before their gloves go on. I was wondering if you should do the same if u train at home with a punch bag. Ive hurt my wrist a few times hitting the punch bag too hard while training. Should I bandage up first?

Thanks.

I don't bandage my wrists or ankles when I use my punching bag. I hit it for at least 30 mins, but I have had a workout where I punched it for an hour and a half. I guess it might be a good idea if you keep hurting your wrist. Usually when I hurt my wrist punching it's because my wrist is cocked one way or the other. I have a mirror behind my bag so it's easy for me to correct my form.

I would check your form before taping anything up...if your still hurting your wrist I would tape it up and see if it helps.

I'm assuming you, like many others in my gym, box without gloves.

I've tried this a few times and it was extremely painful. Do you eventually get over the pain or are you warriors just bearing the pain and punching like mad anyway?

I have a canvas bag and that can hurt your hands. It toughens them, but if you punch it too long it begins to get painful. What I do to build up my hands is I punch the bag until my hands start to turn red and sore, then I put on the gloves and continue punching. I'm trying to build up the amount of time I can hit the bag without gloves.

I could hit the punch bag without gloves on, but i prefer using them cause i can hit the bag a lot harder with them on which means less injury to my wrists and hands.

I say you should definitely wrap your hands before putting the gloves on and I always do. Why? Wrapping the hands keeps the small bones in your hands compact so that when you clinch your first it is a nice and tight grip. Now, when you strike something, there is much less chance of those small bones banging against each other and cracking. ALL professional fighters wrap there hands before training and before fights...how good will your training go with a broken hand? Hmmmmm....
