After reading the post on flying I just wondered how people have found train rides? For Christmas I would have to travel 1 1/2 hours on a train and I just wondered how this motion makes people feel?
I find that I am now ok in short car and bus rides although I can sometimes feel dizzy but it is probably my anxiety.
Thanks!

Hi - prior to the flying experience I was fine on trains - now I get the motion after BUT I'm pretty much fine on journeys that are less than 3 hrs. 1 1/2 hrs - you'll be fine:) If you're not, the effects will be tempoary as they are with me - your brain can see the ouside world moving which is not as confusing as an aeroplane.

I've never had any problems on trains, and have rarely heard anyone mention this, sure you'll be fine,

Depends v much on your inner ear symptoms - if you have motion sensitivity or not - some do some dont just like some people are v off balance and dizzy in the dark, others not. You should be fine Ruby xxx

Thanks for your replies! I guess I am just going to have to go for it and see what happens! My physiotherapist suggested I try a short journey (1 stop=5 minutes) first to see what happens so I'm going to go along with this advice. I guess this illness really makes you appreciate normality and being able to get on with life without having to think everything through and of course worry! :)

My hot tip for train journeys - sit in the business carriage! It's much, much quieter and radically reduces the stress level of the whole affair.

Surprisingly I found trains much easier than car journeys...

Hi, I have unfortunately have a few bad experiences with trains - but longer journeys - say 4hrs plus. The shorter ones seem to be fine. The physio who helped with my VRT recommends not looking out the window, or reading, or doing anything that involves moving your head about too much. So maybe listening to music is the solution.

Hope it goes OK, I'm sure short journeys will be fine

When I went to Toronto I had to use the underground trains often. I was afraid at first, but they didn't make me dizzier.

I find the tube in london a bit of a battle! Am okish when on but get the motion after just for about 10mins. And yes I agree with not moving your head too much on train tho do look out the window a bit as then the brain knows you are moving.

Hi Ruby, I have travelled in the Euro Tunnel train, lol if that counts was perfect no prob's just like I'd never been in a train at all. When I was less well compensated I would get a pro-longed sensation that some how I was still in motion, hope that makes sense. But that tended to wear off by evening or at worst by the following morning. Good Luck. Its sounds kinda a shortish trip, Good Luck. x

Thanks everyone for your input. I do not travel until the 18th, so I will let you know what happens. In a way I am more worried about the other end of the trip, getting off on the busy platform and having to then get in a car when I will already be feeling bad from the train. There is not really anywhere quiet to sit at the station and I think I will just want to get to my parents asap. I will have someone with me but I think I am expecting to be in bed for the first part of my visit!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the train was fine! I did feel quite tense to begin with and I felt very aware of every movement but it did not make me feel dizzy either during or after the journey! I did however treat myself to an afternoon nap when I arrived! Thanks for all of your earlier comments, I really must get on top of my worrying! :)

I'm so glad it went well.

I seem to find it fine when I'm on something that is moving. Because I get the feeling of moving when I'm not..if I'm on a train, escalator, elevator or in a car...it feels normal to me...but as soon as it stops moving..then I have the problem.
