I was diagnosed with IBS after a stressful mid-term in College last year. I'm on Zelnorm & Miralax, and constipation seems to creep up in times of stress and every weekend when i'm out of my routine. Anyways, I seem to be extremely bloated no matter if i have a bowel movement or not. I'm 20 and it's embarrassing and depressing. Could this just be a gas problem that something like Gas X could fix? Too much good bacteria? I do have a high fiber diet to aid constipation, and I'm aware of the threat of beans and such. But I don't seem to be passing gas (how nice). Why do i look like I'm pregnant! (and yes.. my doctor actually made me take the test and it was negative of course)
I appreciate any advice

Most bloating is caused by your friendly bacteria being out of balance. Eating a good brand of yogurt and taking a probiotic sullpement will help re-establish your good intestinal flora.

Taking Gas X is one of those things that will just alter the balance of the acids in your stomach and make it even worse.
I agree with Harry, that the bloating is caused by your gut bacteria being out of balance and that you should most definitely be eating some live yogurt and/or taking Acidophilis caps. This normally helps bloating by restoring the balance.
Good luck

And i will ask again, how much should a person be taking of probiotics? Harry the 2 PB8 2 x's a day has done nothing for me,so how many is safe to take at one time? i am up to 3 caps,2 x's a day and i dont think it is working either, I am taking them morning and night so i am sure they are going into an empty stomach..anyone else care to share what kind and how much they take and at what times of the day? this would be really helpful...Thanx

Echoe,
There are several other brands that have worked for me beside PB-8. Primal Defense, Primadophilus with Reuteri, Flora Source. and Kyodophilus.
All that I have ever taken -- acts very slow almost without even noticing. The only one that was acted almost instantly with only 2 doses is "Probiotica" made by the same people that makes Imodium but was been discontiued -- I bought the last bottle my Wal Mart had --- it contained L. reuteri that was excellent.
I wish you well--Harry

Im not saying that im looking for instant results but this has been 4 weeks now? You had recommended the PB8 so thats why i tryed that one and just ordered 2 more bottles so am wondering if the 3 caps 2 x's a day is ok or what is too much etc..I suppose we are all hoping for quick fixes and do get impatient at times but as i said this has been a month..

I think what you're doing is OK. and you should have noticed some difference. I also eat yogurt a least twice daily--- and Stonyfield Farm is very good.
The problem I have always had with probiotics is that they are destroyed by heat and stomach acids. Some claim that heat does not effect but you never know how they are handled before you buy them. PB-8, Kyodophilus and Primal Defense make that claim. Some days when the UPS truck or the US Mail package comes the container is warm to the touch.
When I go to the health food store ---they are all stored in a Display frige.
I guess that why I like yogurt because it has to be shipped in a cold truck. You may also try Kefir--- it has 38 active cultures in it. The best I think is an Organic brand --Helious. It taste somewhat like buttermilk. It's been around for 1000 years. It replenishes your GI tract bacteria very well.
