I was watching a segment on TV last night about vitamins and nutrition. The speaker was Dr. Perricone, who has written serveral books. One of the things that he said was that the omega 6 and 3 oils don't get utilized properly in older people, because we are low on a certain hormone. He said you need to add some sort of supplement to your diet, but I can't remember if it was DMAE or DHE or Lipic Acid. Does anyone know about this? Thanks.

Dr. Perricone makes a lot of claims for various supplements and topicals ("nutraceuticals" and "cosmeceuticals"). He also has his own formulations which he markets at extremely inflated prices. All the claims he makes can be discovered by anyone studying nutrition in detailed relation to the human body. Some supplements he recommends can also be unhealthy for people as young as 35 and others who may not need them.
If you have a desire to take the supplements he recommends, it would be very wise to first get credible information from a non-biased source outside of Dr. Perricone.

Perricone is bright and personable with some intriguing ideas. Overall though, I'm inclined to agree with mellowfish; don't embrace anyone's ideas too fervently who's hawking goods on TV...(even PBS!:D)

He's a dermatologist and probably more on target when he sticks to SKIN health. I haven't read his book but from the TV presentation which has been on a zillion times over the years, he sometimes tends to take an accepted fact and then torture it beyond recognition, and then to truly inderstand the concept: YOU MUST BUY THE BOOK, VIDEO, CREAMS, etc., etc.

Zoe,
Just add more Omega-3's than you feel you need to account for the "aging differential" and all will be well. (We all get more than enough Omega-6's...less absorption would be a BLESSING!:D)
