I wouldn't know which one could get you in the best shape. I take taekwondo lessons. It doesn't really matter which one you choose, you can get in great shape as long as you have the commitment to workout. I workout outside of class and it really pays off.

Take kickboxing. It's rougher, tougher and i'm pretty sure your instructor will make you do some muscle endurance/training. No kimonos and kata's, this is the real ****

I was thinking more kick boxing myself aswell. Alot more tougher and it should give me a good workout aswell. Who do you think would win in a fight between a black belt Karate person or a black belt Kickboxer?

The kickboxer would probably eat the karate kid.

Kickboxing is FUN!!! It is definately good for toning and loosing weight, since it combines aerobics and weights. It's more for exercise and competition. A lot of kickboxers lift weights besides doing the actually kickboxing. It makes you feel strong and doesn't get boring. I highly recommend it for you.

Karate is more for self defense. It's really cool, but I don't think it's going to help you loose weight.

On the other hand....I have my son enrolled in Kung Fu. It's good for both self defense and health. I've noticed that none of the students in my son's class are over weight. They are all thin. Even the Sifu is thin. It involves working on flexibility, eating healthy, speed, strength, and mind over matter. The warm ups look easy, but are very difficult since they are designed to strengthen the muscles. His Sifu reminds the students not to try the moves they learn on their friends, because Kung Fu is considered "dirty fighting." The only down side that I have seen with Kung Fu is that the weak minded wind up quiting.

I love the martial arts. :bouncing: :D

Kung Fu is much much deeper than your average martial art. Depending on the teacher, it can be much more than just a sport.

Like you said, kickboxing is definitely fun. I dont enjoy anything more than a good kickboxing session at my gym. And like you said, you really feel the power.

Fencing is VERY dangerous. I have an uncle who is currently in prison for fencing. I'd recommend staying away from any activities which involve stealing or selling stolen merchandise.
