I bought Valerian a few weeks ago because I heard it would help with anxiety and depression from a book I read on that subject. I have taken it every day and I feel wonderful. I no longer have any problem sleeping at night, and I no longer feel worried or have anxiety. I am actually starting to speak in public now which I never did. Just thought I would share that news with you.

I find it to be great stuff as well, and no percievable side effects as well.

Numerous reference sources I know of have somewhat issued a caution when using valerian. It is a very good herb for anxiety and depression, however, it is one of those herbs where "more is not better". Should you take too much or for too long, it may cause anxiety and depression that you are using it to get rid of. If you use it in the daytime, 10-15 drops of the liquid tincture is enough. At night, you can double that. It is also best not to use it without taking a break. I've found 5 days on and 2 off is very good.
Good luck

In the past I too have successfully used valerian as a sleep aid. I am also aware of unrelated, reliable references that caution the use of valerian, citing specifically excess stress on the adrenal glands.

**It is always important to remember that no matter how good something seems, particularly if it is herbs or other natural substances being introduced to the body for the medicinal purposes, there still exists side effects, especially those that can be potentially harmful resulting from unintended misuse.**

I tried several forms of it and for me I though (like Bach's Rescue Remedy tincture), that it was a rip off and wouldn't calm a mouse!!

I use valarian at times at night. During the day, if I need to be calm, I take calms forte by hylands. I am afraid to take valarian during the day if it makes me too drowsy
