Hi all... looking for suggestions on headaches/neck pain I have been having.
It's been on and off for a long time, over this whole year for sure. Sorry if it seems like too much detail, but you can tell me what seems relevant. A few years ago, I was in a taxi in DC and got whiplash... yes, I did see the doc and took advil or similar for a while... the immediate issues cleared up. about a year later, I got a bunch of migraines over a few months time, (I'd only had them once years before and it was similar, a bunch in a row over a few months then nothing) and was at just at wits end with them, then they stopped. About 6 months after that... the newest form of heachaches happened and have been with me ever since to varying degrees. I basically noticed that I had a constant headache, and it was not like a migraine or tension headache at all. Just a dull constant pain, sort of making me feel like I had a hangover. I went to the doctor after a few weeks finally getting sick of it and I had xrays done (April of this year), basically the only comment was a slight miscurvature but nothing significant. The MD had me take motrin I believe for a while... and independently I sought out a chiro. Went to the chiro for a bit, and while it helped a little, I guess I thought it was strange since he wanted to see if my feet were even and then would tap me with a little punch thing (think, syringe crossed with a cigarette car adapter). He also had me do neck excercises and at least gave me a helpful name- cervical headaches. Like I said I thought it helped but more due to the excercises and general advice than the actual adjusting. So, over the summer I "managed" the situation and seemed to be ok, occaisionally taking some advils if it was bugging me. Now the headaches are back and I am at a loss at what to do next. Do I need a referral to an orthopedic doctor? The other piece I should add is when I move my neck it makes all kinds of clicking and popping and moving around my head seems to aggravate it though, I do it a lot because I feel it's the only way I can loosen up. And the constant headaches make me feel as though I am in a fog. My posture probably isn't great and I am on the computer constantly, both for work and fun so it could be a repetitive thing too.
suggestions/thoughts?

I'm no expert at this, but maybe you should see an orthopaedic doc. I too go to a chiropracter. They always check to see if my feet are even. It's a way to tell if the lower part of your back is in line. Mine typically is way out of wack, my chiropracter says it's because of the abnormal stress that bowling causes. Anyways, if you think that the exercises for your neck helped, did you ever consider seeing if your doc would give you a referral to a physical therapist to work on your neck/back for a couple months? And if you think about it...like with other joints in your body, if the muscles around them aren't strong, then they will have a difficult time staying in place. That may add to the cracking that you hear/feel when moving your head around. I don't want to worry you though, my neck pops like crazy when I rotate my head. No one has ever had any concern about it. My parents are thinking of having someone at least look at it. Seems too simple for a neurologist to consider! haha. Well, good luck. I hope this helps....
