Hey all.
I'm a 23 year old guy and after randomly reading about strokes, I started thinking I may have had one. For about a few weeks 2 months ago, I would randomly get numbness in my left hand (not even the whole hand, just a small part of it). I would also get it in my foot (honestly, I can't remember if it was my left or right foot).
I have had no other symptoms. I'm not sure if the numbness was caused by the way I slept or something. I remember it would last hours at a time though.
I guess my question is, will a stroke hurt you in any immediate way (aside from just the numbness). For example, I know you can get a heart attack and be relatively fine and not even know it. Is it the same with a stroke? I ask because nothing has happened in the past month or so. Is that a sign that this was NOT a stroke and that I'm just overreacting?
Thanks for any help.

It really sounds more spine related than a stroke.i know that the hand(the last two fingers, pinkie and ring)are affected by the c 8 nerve and also a very small part of the foot which I cannot actually remember just exactly where. If you are not having any other possible stroke symptoms, i think it is pretty safe to assume that this is more of a spinal nerve problem and not a sign of a stroke.i would make a visit to your doc and discuss this.He may send you for an MRI which would hopefully turn up the problem. It could be many different things from a possible herniated disc that is just starting to show itself,to just bone spurs(which are very common).Make that appt and hopefully you will find out the cause.Marcia

My left hand bacme numb from holding a tray all the time. I pulled my tendon or something. I never actually went to the Dr. for it but he other girls at work had the same problems. Some had surgey some not. The ones that did ahve surgery the problem came back in a year or so. They were all told they had carpal tunnel. I wore a brace while at work. The numbness stopped after a few months of the brace and hand strengthing exercises.

This may not be related, but, prior to my stroke (VAD) I had tingling sensation that ran from my sholders to my palms (both). This follows after my regular "neck-cracking". Incidentally, if your are neck-cracking, I would advice to refrain.
If anyone has the same sensation, see your dr for check-up.
Believe me , a little paranoia is worth it.
Check the internet for neck-manipulation/chiropractor/shiatsu and stroke!
