a buddy of mine had a high risk encounter about 2 years ago and has had no symptoms of aids/hiv, but is really freaking out. he went to the docs last week and the doctor told him to get tested for std including aids. he has a rather intense anxiety disorder and has had about 4-6 blood tests taken for various reason and everything seems ok, including his white blood cell count, liver, etc. basically he's been told he's healthy as a horse.
would something have shown up in any of is past blood tests? how do i stop him from having a nervous breakdown? im the only person he's told.
thanks guys/gals!

It would be a really good sign that your friend has felt totally healthy for the last two years and that nothing abnormal has ever showed up in his blood tests, but this is not confirmation of a definite negative HIV status.
If his doctor thinks it would be worthwhile him getting tested, try and persuade him to go through with it. It would probably only be in the back of his mind, worrying him forever, if he didn't get tested now anyway as the seed of worry will already have been planted in his head by his doctor.

sorry to bug you again.
i would have thought that if he had contracted something, his white blood cell count would have yeilded something. am i right? also, i've been doing some reading, is it true that a person with HIV, not yet aids, if caught in it's early stages can live a full life? theres alot of conflicting things on the net. he's all paraniod again because around the same time as the possible infection he had tonsilitus. we live in canada so its not uncommon for sore throats. also, he's had tonsilitus a thousand time before. he had them removed about 1.5 years ago. could that be a sign? are there any support things on line where i can learn to console him? i feel really bad.
thanks again

Although his white blood cell count would have been high (due to trying to fight off an infection or virus) that is not always an indicator of HIV. Also, there are millions of people living with HIV/AIDS that are currently living life to the fullest. There are many support groups, you can look in your area where you live to find info. Or call the center for disease control.
