Hello all,
Well this is my first post on this site. I suffer for dizziness 24/7 and am dealing with alot of stress and anxiety. I have recently been put on High Blood Pressure meds. Hate them! I do not like pills and notice all side effects. Anyway my question is. I am obbessed with my Blood pressure and what it will do to me and the side effects of my medication which is Atenolol. I notice from time to time that I get a feeling of anxious in my chest and it will last for days. I have normal pluse and BP have been to ER and said it was anxiety. Does anyone have this? Now I am freaking out about this... Thanks

YES!
I do have this and also the high blood pressure which has been very hard to controll. I am now on Lotrel and Lopressor. I started with atenolol. It wasn't strong enough.
I am also new here and hate meds as well, and have fought them all the way. But, I am just hoping to get some answers.
What other symptoms do you have?

Well my BP is not bad on the Atenolol I think I will have to go to 50 mil. instead of the 25. It is running about 138/88 now and my pulse is ok but I notice that there are days when I feel rushed and the feeling stays in my chest. If that makes sense. It feels like I am anxious or rushing. My pluse is normal during this time and my BP is to. Some days it will last for 2 days. Then it goes away. I have had this for over a year. I have been to the ER but nothing. I worry that it is heart related. Now I am getting some weird sensation on the left side of my face kinda like a tingling. So now I worry about stroke. It is around my upper cheek. I know anxiety can cause this too. I have also heard that sometimes Atenolol can cause this. I have only been on it a month. Shouldnt all my side effects already have appeared. I also have panic attacks at night mostly and feel like I have trouble breathing. I hate this. Plus my 24/7 dizziness dosent help much. What symptoms do you have?

HI Cynder
atenolol is a good med for you as it also reduces the physical problems from anxiety, with doc's OK you can take a bit more when very anxious as it works quickly, its a good med and can help you a lot
do try to forget about your PB as just thinking about it always makes it go higher!
dizzyness can be caused by anxiety and many other things also, including ear problems
tingling can be caused by anxiety, look up fight or flight response on the net via a search engine
you need a good GP doc who will get all the tests done and who is able to reassure you
anxiety and panic attacks can tense you up and make breathing difficult, have you been checked for asthma
anxiety sufferers arent immune from physical illnesses and every problem shouldnt be automaticly blamed on anxiety, IMO
any valium type med disolved under the tongue at the start of a panic attack will greatly reduce it ask doc for some, they go well with atenolol
