This likely sounds stupid to anyone who has a greater understanding of this affliction than I do. If i'm not mistaken, AIDS essentially cuts down on the number of T-cells in the body, rendering the body susceptible to sickness without the normal ability to protect itself via the immune system.

Is there any research done on the effects of 'recycling' blood in a patient? In terms of replenishing the blood with a full, albeit temporary supply of functional wbcs and the like. If anyone can give me an in-depth response, I'd be appreciative. Better yet, if this is absolutely ridiculous sounding, I'd like to hear the reasons behind it.

Thanks.

I think similar things like this have been tried such as giving an HIV patient a full blood transfusion. In basic terms, their infected blood is removed and replaced with uninfected blood.

This seemed to work to begin with as no trace of the virus could be found in their body for a while after the procedure but then it returned again. It seemed that the virus had hidden away in some of the internal organs.

I would guess that your idea would probably have a similar effect in that it would return the patient to a normal state of health for a short time but as soon as the virus took hold of the body again, the effects of the treatment would be reversed.
