Just came from my annual physical. Again, I complained about my ongoing constipation. The Dr. prescribed MiraLax today. I am to dissolve 1 T. of this white powder into 8 oz. of water once a day. This works only in the intestines.
I asked him if this wasn't the same as the OTC stool softeners out there and he said it was much better, and I could take it ongoing...even though the accompanying literature said it was better not to.
I hope it works, and I didn't just pay $36 for nothing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

One of the first things you really should do is try to pinpoint what is causing your constipation and eliminate the cause. You should already be using Metamucil 2-3 times a day as well as drinking prune juice or eating prunes regularly. You also need to be sure to sit on the toilet for 5 minutes every day after breakfast whether you have a BM or not to try to get your bowels regulated. Be sure to increase your water intake as well as your natural fiber intake. Miralax is not something I see prescribed at our nursing home much so I haven't had a lot of experience with it. Since your doc wants you to try it go ahead and see how it works for you but continue with the Metamucil as well and also take time to figure out what is causing your constipation so you can try to eliminate the cause.

Hi there I have been on Mirlax for a year now I have fair results with it as i also have inertia, but at least it is tasteless, you can mix with anything
