i am very excited that my husband and i are expecting our first child. i am 8 weeks along and had my first appt where they are in the process of running all the tests necessary. i am a little concerned about stds. i lost my viriginity at 24 and prior to that i would only give oral sex. i am now totally worried that i have caught an std and just don't know it. i am now 32 and have never had any symptoms that made me think i had one. but now that all the tests are being done, i 'm so scare of the outcome. are they any other women out there who were or are pregnant that we scared of testing. the waiting for the results is driving me crazy.... any responses would be appreciated.

That was a really bad part of being pregnant was facing my past. I wasn't innocent. Waiting for the HIV test terrified me and I was throwing up everynight because I thought it would come back positive and then what? I wait to die? So here's what I made myself think...well....if I did have it then at least I could get on meds and live pretty much the rest of my life with my children. But never finding out I could die sooner and not be around for them. It is scary but whatever it is you will handle it. There isn't much that you won't do for your child and he/she will take first priority in your life. Anything else besides HIV is tolerable. Don't dwell too much on the bad...try to enjoy your pregnancy it goes by so fast. Good luck to you.

i'm 5 months pregnant right now and the tests I had to do were really scary. But I just thought "hey, if i have something i need to know now so I can get treated as soon as possible and get the best proper care so I can be healthy for not only me but espcially my baby." Even though you have no symptoms doesn't mean you don't have an STD. Alot of women have STD's and don't know it. A friend of mine found out she had Chlamydia when she was pregnant and it's good that she found out earlier on because the Dr. prescribed her a weeks worth of Amoxicilan to take 3 times a day and a month later when they did another culture it was gone. She delivered a beautiful healthy girl. I think though the HIV test was the worst for me. It didn't help going alone either. My fiance' couldn't get the day off and it was my first prenatal appointment. I had no idea what was going on or what to expect. They laughed at me when they asked if I wanted to have the HIV test done because it was mandatory that they offer it. I didn't have to take it, but it was mandatory for them to let me know they offer it. I'm the kind of person that if i have something, i'd rather not know! lol* So I froze in the chair and kinda just mumbled "well...okay if I look like i have HIV" i remember getting home and crying and calling my fiance. I didn't have alot of unprotected partners, but that's still no excuse...even having sex unprotected one time is all it takes and I was so sure it was gonna come back positive. (thinking of course that's just my luck) I would dream about it and think "OMG! It's a sign." Sure enough, i'm fine. It's a relief though somewhat to know that there are so many medical breakthroughs to help cure what couldn't be cured back some odd years ago. So many advancements we have to be thankful for. Try not to worry about it too much or your gonna make yourself sick and then eventually you'r gonna convince yourself that your experiencing symptoms. Good luck!
