Hello all...can you tell me...
What is the chances of getting HIV through a few piercings at a tattoo parlor?
Should I get tested?
Thank You and God Bless!!

i don't know anything about aids/hiv (minimal knowlege) i do have many tattoos and peircings.
it all depends on where you get it done. if you get stuff done at a dirty sty of a parlor, then i would say you chances of catching something are pretty good.
however, if you go to a reputable place that is clean and is willing give you info on their cleaning procedures (which are the same as hospitals) you chances of contracting anything like aids/hiv, hep, etc are about the same odds as if you were having surgery.
a rule of thumb is; a good tattoo isn't cheap and a cheap tattoo isn't good. the same goes for sanitation. if the place is cheap, chances are they don;t use proper cleaning procedures in order to cut their costs.

Thank You for responding.....
I got it done at ink link...my piercings were $20 a piece...I got my nose and navel...the guy wore gloves and washed his hands and opened a new pack with a needle, but they could have resealed that. I would think they would have to be sterile because they get inspected. I heard it is still kinda hard to get it that way but there is a chance. Would you get tested from what I just told you? People told me they are sterile, but I dont know.
Thank You and God Bless!!

if i were you i'd get tested on the sole fact of paranoia! if you don't get tested you'll just let it eat you up. i'd def go! but in all honesty, i think your fine.
What state do you live in? Most states are heavily regulated and they are inspected for cleanliness. My guess is that you probably have nothing to worry about.

Thank you for your reply on my subject, If you got a piercing from a needle that had been re-used the person would have to be HIV+ and the needle would have to be re-used in minutes. HIV is not like hepatitis it does not survive outside the body but for a few minutes. Get tested so you will feel better and keep coming out to these sites every so often so you will never get the feeling of that won't happen to me and will always stay safe. God Bless
