Since it has gotten cold and snowy/icey, dark...etc....I have found it much harder to get myself to the gym. I have been on a rigorous schedule of 14x per week, and am finding myself slowing down a bit...not quite yet but definitly noticing it becoming very much more difficult to get myself to keep doing what i've been doing. (On sunday instead of my usual hour on the treadmill I could only get into some basketball, shooting and running around the court for 45 minutes or so). I did work hard, sprinting around and finishing up strong with a jog all around the gym and a sprint to the hoop until I was pretty much dead. Still, I'm sure I didn't get the same workout I know I usually do.
But I rambled...my question I guess was do others find it much harder to exercise during the winter months?

Is it the winter months or are you starting to hit an overtraining point? That is a symptom.

Same experience here. During sunny weather I do lots more physical work. In the winter you jsut feel like sitting indoors. Plus, its extremely cold outside so it takes great motivation to even go outside and walk to the gym or bus stop, let alone go outside and jog.

No, it's definitly not overtraining. My body feels as normal as ever, and the loss of motivation hit pretty much right in timing with the ugly weather hitting. I drive to work in the dark, I drive home in the dark. It's a lot easier for me to do my lunchtime workout now because it's only weights, not as tough as a 1 hour cardio session, its in the daylight, and its an opportunity to get away from work. The night session is by far the hardest, It's dark and cold out, I drive right by my house on the way to the gym, and it's for my CARDIO session, something that takes a lot more motivation, for me at least. I will try my best, though. Sometimes what helps, as odd as it sounds, I just takea look in the mirror. Check my stomach status...As I said it's been really nice, so I think how I want to keep it that way, or if I've put on a pound from a bad night of eating for example, that also drives me to go there. I'm in Michigan, so the winters are just downright ugly. The temps fluctuate so much that if we get a nice snowfall, it might melt the next week, leaving dirty snowdrifts on the side of the road, or we'll get sleet, etc....just nasty. I have a nice car audio setup that helps the drives a little bit.

I don't really lose motivation but I won't go to the gym if it's a really nasty or really cold day out. I also hate coming out of the gym having worked up a good sweat into the frigid cold!

I know how you feel cause Pittsburgh is crappy too. I actually have less energy in the winter for some reason. I've been pretty tired lately, but this usually occurs right at the beginning of winter then I snap out of it and feel normal again. I guess the cold weather, and it getting dark very early, makes some people feel less energized. I've always worked out indoors though so the cold shouldn't interfere with them, but I do need more motivation, so yes, I know how you feel. I think you'll snap out of it though. ;)

I sure hope so...this is the best I've kept at my exercise routine....14x per week at almost 2+ months now, I really don't want to slow down now. The main thing really is the weather...today it's clear out so I am finding it more easy to get ready to go as soon as Im done with work. On cloudy rainy/snowy days though, its dark much earlier, and I have to force myself. Looking forward to December 21 - then the days start getting longer!
