 I am a 44 yr old female who has been battling depression for the last year. I am on Celexa and the doctor wants to switch me to Effexor xr because while Celexa seem to be working at first it no longer is and when they moved me to a higher dose the twitches were almost constant. I am taking 30 mg Celexa right now and can tolerate it but it is not helping my depression. I also take Ativan and Clonazapam as needed for sleep and anxiety.
My question is anyone have personal experiences with Effexor XR that they could share. Thanks in advance. :)

Hi there, good to see you here. Right now i take Celexa too. It works for me for depression and anxiety. Right now the dose I take is 20 mg. I dont know much about Effexor but have heard that it works well for some people. Let me know how things work out for you and if the Effexor helps.

Hi! I am on Celexa too (40mg). It seems to be working out well for me. It seems like Effexor is the popular drug nowadays. I would read a lot of the posts on this board. A lot of experience here with that drug. Good luck!

Hi Sandy,
I started Effexor XR this year ( end of Feb.). I love it!!
I'm 33 yrs old, and in the past 9 years have tried Zoloft, Serzone, Celexa, Valium. They all didn't do a thing for me, but everyone is different.
Before the effexor, I would get out of bed soooo dizzy-out of it- banging into walls ( I think from grinding my teeth so bad at night too). I would be sooo depressed. Barely getting my kids off to school.
When they finally left for school, I was back in bed sleeping the day away.
After starting the effexor, I can get up as early as 5:00 a.m. and start the day with a fresh attitude. I still take a nap on most days though.
I still have depression , but it's know where near what it was before taking effexor.
I take 150 mg before bed ( that way I'm asleep if I get any bad side effects).
The only side effects I have from effexor is : right thumb-wrist tremor (positional), eye floaters in right eye, muscle twitches on and off.
Another good thing (for me) since starting it is that it relaxes my muscles at night. I used to wake up feeling like I was 80 yrs. old. Now, I still feel achy---- but not as stiff, like I got ran over by a semi. :D
