It all started with an intense migraine headache for about 4 days. He went to work by plane in Chicago, then left work after 3 hours and went back to his hotel. There he slept for 3 days straight. My Grandma called the hotel and they woke him up. He then flew back to Grand Rapids. The next day, she took him to the med-center and he had a seizure on the medical tabel. Then she took him to ER. There he stayed and the whole time he had a fever over 100. He didn't complain of a headache at all during the stay, but we don't know if he had one. He had a CT scan, MRI and catscan and all came up negative. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with him. He was fine the Friday that I went to see him. He was laughing, and talking, and even read the Father's Day cards we made for him. Early next morning, he had a massive brain hemmorage, and was braindead. Later he lost the dialation of his pupils, and was on life support. At 6:00 Father's Day morning, the life support was pulled, and he took his last breath. We all cried for him, and are baffled that the docs don't know what went wrong. He had approximately 3 Neurologists working on him. Can anybody please tell me what he may of had. We know it was not an annurysim. Thank you very much.

Ryan,
I'm really sorry for your loss. It is very difficult to loss a loved one--especially around holidays (sounds like it was right around father's day). And it can be very frustrating when we don't know or understand the cause. Many times there are just no good explainations.....it sounds as if the doctors ruled out many brain/neuro disorders and after the fact, it is even harder to figure out what the problem really was. I don't think at this time any of us can really tell you what you want to hear--the reason for your grandfathers death, but I'm sure all of us will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have actually been researching about this, and am almost 90% sure that he has the West Nile Virus. Unfortunately, he is the only one that has died in Michigan of the virus, so I would imagine that people would like to know about it. If you have any questions, you will have to contact the Kent County Health Department. Thanks again!
