my 16 month old son has as large left frontal arachnoid cyst. the cyst was operated on when he was 5 weeks old and has drained slightly but is still quite large. it does not seem to be causing any further pressure to the brain.

he seems to be developing ok although he does seem to be slightly behind other babies of his age.

i am getting a little concerned about his speech. he is not saying any words, but is still babbling like he did when he was nine months old. some days he doesn't make many sounds at all. i feel that even though speech development varies quite alot in babies my son should be a little noisier.

he sees his neurosurgeon every 6 months and he visits our local hospital every 12 weeks for observation. they both seem happy with him.

i would be grateful for any information that could be of help. does anyone know what the possible outlook is for my son?

I have a arachnoid cyst in my lumbar spine. Painfull and had to get it shunted. Glad they are watching it. I feel so bad for him and you. Aparently born with it, right? Hopefully it will stop where it is and he will be fine. Is he in any pain? It has to be very uncomfortable and pressing on something. Mine was, on the spinal cord. Caused pain and head pressure. I have a shunt but it took years to find a DR. willing to do it. Glad you found one. God bles you. I you need support, I am here. kathrynlibrizzi@aol.com, feel free to write.

Hello, my name is Marc and I have a rather large cyst that's sounds to be in close to the same location as your son's. I am encountering subtle symptom due to the cyst expansion, but overall I do not have any learning problems, actualy my most recent neuro-psych testing showed that I am still in the high/above average range4. My cyst is approx 7.5 by 5.4 by 4.7. if you have any more questions please e-mail me. I hope that due to the location of your son's cystbeing close to the same as mine, that my case gives you some reassurance
