I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for pain relief techniques that do not involve medication. I try to stay away from medication but my tmj pain is so bad that it is affecting every aspect of my life. I am no longer chewing and use an NTI. I am scheduling disc removal surgery for February or March. So, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

just my humble opinion, but my thoughts would be that if you are scheduling disc removal surgery, you might want to make your peace with medication for the pain.

I have to agree with theou last post. Only because, there will probably be some pain associated with the surgery that over the counter drugs may not help.
But, I can say I do a couple of things that, at least for me, relax me.
The first is to soak a hand towel or washcloth...and, i put it in the microwave for 15 second intervals. You don't want it scalding hot. Moist heat has helped me, in the past.
Also, what about natural supplements. Valarian root is good..it did help me in the past. Also, there is an natural supplement online, called Serinitol. It might be of some use.
Again, as I have said and said, if you are considering any natural supplement, make sure you research it and talk to your doctor about it.
take care and good luck with you future surgery.
