I had gotten my wisdom teeth pulled about 5 years ago. Since then I have had jaw cracking without pain. It has been getting worse throughout the years, that even my boyfriend noticed it when we were kissing. I have heard about it when people eat, I get that too, but it happens all the time even when I start to talk. I have never had the feeling of my jaw locking, its just the cracking. I was wondering what I should do or if anyone else has this problem. Also if this happened because I got my wisdom teeth pulled, and what I can do to fix it. Any help appreciated
Thanks

It is quite normal to have some degree of popping and cracking of your joints. Dentists usually does not treat this problem if you do not experience pain. Your popping and cracking sounds may be due from having your wisdom teeth extracted. For instance while during the extraction they may have to force your mouth open wider than normal to get to those teeth. This can cause your joints to start popping. I believe mine started with having a lot of fillings put in at one time. I had my jaw propped open for too long. If it's still a concern for you, consult with your dentist.

that was how mine was for a long time, until this past summer when it started hurting, and got to the point where i could barely eat. It didn't lock until this past week. Anyway, TMJ can sometimes start fine and just progress, so it wouldn't hurt to get information just in case it progresses.

I would be really careful with your jaw from now on. I had popping and cracking for years before my pain started. Then one day I yawned and my jaw locked up for a few minutes. I have been in constant pain ever since. A good idea is try not to open your mouth too wide if you can. If you have to yawn, put your chin down towards your chest so you won't open your mouth too wide. I would also try not to eat food that is too hard or chewy. I wish you the best of luck.
