Hello, my mother has been smoking for about 15 years!! She has high blood pressure so she cant take the patch or anything, shes even allergic to the prescription you can take. Around the house she does everything and she doesn't trust anyone else. So, basically there is no time for her to stop unless we were to move out for 3 days or something. Not only am I extremely worried about her health because on top of the smoking damage she has, diabetes, high triglisoroids, just about everything is high. She even has a tumor! (dont know if it is benine or cancerous) But I am also worried about my father, my brother and my health. Is there any alternative way she can stop smoking besides cold turkey??!!

She doesn't have to stop everything in her life to quit smoking. In fact being busy is a good thing. Former smokers sometimes have trouble figuring out what to do with themselves early in their quit. I don't see why you would have everyone move out while she quits. Quitting is for the rest of her life so no use leaving her while she does it.

If nicotine replacement and Zyban is ruled out, she is left with the cold turkey method. Some people swear by it. Has she consulted her doctor for advice and help such as a support group? Participating in a support group increases the likelihood of staying quit.

Good luck to her and you and I hope that she is able to quit, cold turkey or not.

Question: how could nic replacement be any worse than actually smoking cigarettes, which you indicate she is doing now? Is not actual smoking worse than chewing a piece of nic gum?

Yes, I agree with Tobias. The patch would be less nicotene than what smoking a pack or so a day would give you. And yes, a smoking class or support group would be great.
Good luck..

My mom's high blood pressure interferes with the patch and the gum. THANKS FOR THE REPLIES!
