O.K. I know this is a weird question, but how long do you burp a baby for? (months?) my son is almost 4 months old and my mother says I shouldn't have to burp him anymore and she is convicned that there is something wrong with him because he still needs to be burped. What is the average age you stop burping a baby?
any info would be appreciated
Thanks!!!!

Sometimes I still burp my 11 month old when she falls alseep drinking a bottle.....I don't think there is any specific age to stop burping, it all depends on if they need it or not. I know for sure I burped her everytime until about 6 months but she was a preemie too so she would have been more like a 4 1/2 month old. HTH

I burped my son for at least 6-8 months. I think I finally stopped when he seemed to be doing it himself...and around the time that he was deeply into eating solid foods. I'd keep burping your son if he seems to need it :)

My son is 10 months old and still burp him sometimes. Not because I have to necessarilly but, because he likes it and it comforts him. Burping depends on how much air is swallowed, and how often your little one burps on his own. I never had to burp my daughter (who was a preemie) after she was a week old, cuz she burped WELL on her own. She was my little belcher. How ever my oldest son, was about 5 months old, when he decided being hit on the back contimuously after he ate was repulsive. There is nothing wrong with still having to burp a 4 month old. He can probably burp on his own, too, but if you like to do it, and he don't throw a fit when its done...why stop, its a comfort mechanism too.
