my daughter is 14 months old, for about the last 2 days she has had a fever up into 103...today its peek was 103.6. i have been giving her tylenol, but other than being fatiuged she shows no symptoms of illness.....there is nothing, no vomiting, no diareaha, not even a cough, he nose is just slightly runny, but since she is teething something major that is just the norm for her it seems.
she plays and laughs and seems fine, if you couldnt feel that she was hot you wouldnt even know she was ill.
she isnt pointing out anything that might be hurting...like ear pulling if it would be an ear infection...nothing.
any ideas?????

I would call your pediatrician. 103 is pretty high of a temp.

call the doc just to ask...but it's more normal for little ones to run higher fevers than adults. But see what they say.

You state that she is teething?sometimes kids will produce a raise in temp during this.I would however contact her pediatrician and let them know what has been going on to see if they maybe want to just check her out just to be safe.hope its just the teeth.marcia

Has there been a decline in the amount she eats? DS had a couple ear infections where the only symptom was a fever and he didn't eat as well as usual. Turned out he had an ear infection. Never pulled on his ears or anything. The other question is... Are you giving her the correct dose of tylenol. DS had roseola several months ago and I called ask a nurse 'cuz his fever wasn't going down and I found out I was only giving DS half the dose he could have.

I agree that it could still be an ear infection with no other symptoms.
You might also watch for a rash in the next day or two. Roseola starts with a high fever which lasts for three or four days then it goes away and the child breaks out. Its a very common and not a serious childhood disease, though it can be a problem if your child has been exposed to a pregnant woman.

well i certainly hope it isnt....i am 4 months pregnant
her fever broke about 36 hrs ago....so i think all is well now *sigh*
i have been keeping a close eye on her, but she seems to be back to herself now and fever free....so i am thinking it was just a little bug

Most likely something viral. You are out of your first trimester so you should be fine. But I would mention it to the doctor just in case. If it were an ear infection the fever would still be there. Sometimes kids don't complain with ears. My oldest didn't complain and the doctor was checking him for something else and he had an ear infection! No complaints whatsoever.

thanks
she has been fine since monday and i am reluctant to take her to the dr. as the flu season here is just booming! i would hate to take her now that she is healthy and without a fever to actually come home sick again. i agree that if it would have been a ear infection she would still have a fever and she doesnt and hasnt for days now...so thank goodness!

It sounds like she is fine and I am so happy to hear it!
If it had been roseola she would have broken out by now and even if it was as long as you are past the first several weeks you should be fine.

There's something going around. My 13-month-old son had it two weeks ago. High fever, no other symptoms other than not having an appetite. He had it for FIVE DAYS! It was the worst weekend! My doctor just said it's a virus and needs to run it's course. Also, my son had a sore throat but, of course, I didn't know that until I went to the doctor. She said that was a common symptom with this virus. I just kept him on a steady diet of Motrin (that seemed to work better than Tylenol) and liquids and tried getting him to eat crackers and other light solids. His fever was 103.6 (the highest) on the second day (which the doctor also said was common with this strand.)

definatly sounds like what my daughter had, hers went up to 103.6 as well sometime around the second day.....it must be quite catchy, we usually dont get anything.
