I wrote here about a month ago with what seemed like decompensation to my vestibular dysfunction. I was having the same symptoms as I originally had, imbalance etc. I had originally compenated for this problem.
A few days after my post, I was sent to the hospital with blurred vision, loss of speach and memory. The doctors could not find anything wrong with me. But this event has made my symptoms worse than ever. I have had problems seeing and my balance is off all of the time. I have been doing my therapy exercises and they have helped me get back to work.
I feel terrible, some days I feel good and others I feel worse. My ENT put me on amitryptiline, 20mg per day until I can see him again.
Any Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Hi mixexler,
Did you have an MRI? I'm not a doctor but did they rule out MS? All the symptoms you have described (loss of speech, vision, cognitive problems ex: memory, and also dizziness/virtigo) can all be symptoms of MS.
Make a search for MS symptoms.

Yes I had an MRI and cat scans, they unfortunatley found nothing.

Hi - im afraid I cant remember your initial post so I dont know who diagnosed an inner ear problem and what tests you had????
If it is inner ear dysfunction - yes this latest setback could be decompensation. Not sure about the slurred speech and loss of memory though. With inner ear dizziness, many of us suffer cognitive problems but not slurred speech or complete loss of memory.
This may or may not be related to your inner ear problems but I'd strongly suggest perhaps asking your ENT if they think you also need to see a neurologist. Does your ENT think it's a relapse of inner ear stuff?

I have seen a neurologist and they do cannot find anything wrong. I originally was diagnosed with a 30% reduction in my right ear, this was found after an ENG test. My ENT cannot see me again until 01/06/05. He put me on the Amytriptiline until then.
My concern is that the problem seems to have gotten worse than it was the first time I discovered my dysfinction.
Is this normal? Should I just keep doing the therapy and see what happens? I don't know.

It could be that the second problem (slurred speach etc) is unrelated to your dizziness, but any problem could exacerbate your underlying innerear dysfunction or cause decompensation.
Sounds like your doc may be considering this, but migraine can cause all those things... (which Amp sometimes helps..)
Did any doctors have any theories on what caused the second lot of problems?
