Does anyone else still get a weird sensation at thier incision site when they bend over at the waist? I dont get it all the time but sometimes when I bend over I feel pressure there. My incision site is still numb up to my chin but every couple of days Ive been getting a sharp pain across my chin. Maybe thats a sign its coming back. I talked to someone the other day with the same surgery and she said her numbness went away after about 6 months. I am 14 weeks post op. My neck seems like it wants to pop at the 1st 2 levels like when you want to look up. When were you guys allowed to look up?

Sorry about that last reply...clicked the wrong button.
I had c 6/7 done a year and a half ago and still experience numbness and sharp pains in my neck.cin area. My doc has said that they cut through nerves etc and that it may be something that I will just have to live with. Thats easy to agjust to knowing that's the cards I was dealt.
As far as the bending over thing, I too have a sensation when I bend over, it is at the base of the incision site but my sensation is like my throat collapsing, cutting off my air flow, causes terrible coughing fits. This too does not happen all the time, I find that if I keep my head up when bending over it doesn't happen so much.
Yesterday I went in for a CT scan so that the doc can examine the soft tissues around the area to make sure that something is not wrong. Then he is sending me to another specialist that may or may not do more extensive tests. He first sent me to an ENT doc who did a scope and thought it was GERD. Took meds for two months...didn't work.
Doc says that there is a possibility this may be in my head. He has had it happen one other time with someone that had similiar surgery, it is called something like gagglesteria or odd name like that, he always rattles it off so fast I can't remember.
One thing...tell your doc and keep telling the doc if you have to...make them hear what you are saying!! I had to do this. I looked them in the eyes and said...Listen to me, hear what I'm saying to you.

How much of your incision is numb? Is it just your incision or is it all the way up to your chin?

The numbness is not only in the incision area but up and under my chin. The majority of my left side of neck where incision was is numb. There are many nerves is that area and in my case they went in from the front. And that's thats the area I have the numb sensation.
Does that help?

Yes my incision is numb all the way to may chin and it runs the length of my scar. I do believe it has gotten better. Its only been 3 months. I have been told it could take a year to go away. I do know of 2 other people that had this surgery and they were numb for about a year before they got the sensation back. Sometimes I get a sharp pain in that area which tells me that I must be getting the feeling back. An ear nose and throat specialist told me that a lot of his patients get the numb feeling along the incision but it usually comes back within 6 months. There is a few people on this board that has had this happened to them. But you said you have been numb for over a year has it gotten any better at all?

I have bouts of numbness, tingling feeling in the incision area and up under chin. It is not a constant numbness/tingling. I too experience the sharp pains periodically. Doc says not to worry. I have my c 6/7 in July 2003 so it has been about 1 1/2 years. I would say that the spouts do not happen as much as they use too. Everyone is different in the healing process...some just take longer than others, I think. I do have feeling in that area too.
Are you still seeing your orthopedic surgeon?
One thing I've learned through this is...be persistant, keep telling your doctors the way you feel and pay attention to your aches and pains so that you can clearly explain them.
