Please help!
This is my first time on this site and I'm desperate...
I have been going through menopause for 6 years but extremely severe for the last 5 months. I do not take HRT and have had several tests- all coming back negative except hypothyroid (I feel due to the pause). I have quit my job and I can hardly get out of bed. Besides the obvious symptoms, the following are causing me to experience a very poor quality of life.
Burning and tingling all over my body including my feet and head and Ice cold sensations in my back and my female organs.
Has anyone heard of this?

Hi DepserateLDY, Welcome to this board! There are lots of women going thru the same thing here. I had my bad time last year (lasted 5 mos. for me) but want to stay around to assure women that it does go away after a while. I was also hypothyroid which apparently did not help matters. I know exactly what you are going thru....I too could not work, could not get out of bed and get moving. I ended up getting on Paxil CR mainly b/c I was so desperate to try anything! I also had the burning/tingling feeling. Couple of times, I would be freezing all over--but not in just particular parts of the body. I think it has to do with hot flashes - it's part of it. You must be nearing menopause - I've come to the conclusion that maybe as we (women) approach menopause closer and closer, we get hit big with a whopper before it all settles down. If you feel up to it, find time and read some of the other posts here or go to this other site where there's a lot of other women going thru this - it is powersurge.com.
Is your period starting to be irregular more? How old are you? I can't imagine having symptoms for 6 years! Is there anyone with you at home? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I want you to know that it's OK to "talk" to us here.

Thank you sooo much for the quick response and advice!
I am 58 years old and haven't had my period for 3 years. My boyfriend is home with me because I feel like I always need someone around. When I'm alone I feel scared because I'm worried that these symptoms might be something else. My boyfriend will lose his job also if he doesn't get back to work. Do you think it will settle soon? Have you heard of the burning of the feet?

Yes, I had the burning feet and burning arms too. I freaked out when I first started getting it but I dealt with it after a while. I would soak my feet/arms in cold water sometimes. This might help. I had tingling in just one foot which didn't go even when I walked on it (felt like pins & needles or ants crawling). I had the internal shaking feeling, which were really weird. Don't know if you have that but it is could easily be mistaken like anxiety too. I also needed to have someone around me.
Geez, you are post-menopause then. How have you been from the time you had your last period to the time you started having these severe symptoms? Did you have really bad symptoms when you were 50-52? Are you taking anything? Any meds? Any vitamins? I'm not a dr. by any means but I'm trying to learn the possibilities that can still happen after when a woman stops having her period for years. Can't say when it will end - it's different for everyone but I did read that it can last until we're 65 even! Try not to get scared - you had tests done and all was fine so don't think everything has to be something bad.

It was bearable at the beginning, I have always had minor hot flashes until the last 5 months with these syptoms started.
Since I just found out that I have hypothyroid, I've started taking a low dose of sythroid for approx 2 weeks now, to hopefully help with the icy sensations. I am also on Lipitor and Adalat for cholesterol and high blood pressure- I will not take HRT, etc. I recently stopped taking all my vitamins because I didn't want any reaction to the 3 meds mentioned above. I do eat very well and walk- I've lost approx 30 lbs, I'm a size 10 again.

Hi DesperateLDY, I don't mean to ruin your day but I wanted to tell you about the Lipitor.
When I was hypo, was taking 20mg. of Lipitor and I started having bad burning sensations in my feet, muscle pain in my legs, sore shoulders.
I went to the doctor in so much pain. They took me off the lipitor and in a few days all my pains went away.
I am not on any statin today. I am postmenopausel and 51 years old.

Hi DesperateLDY,
What you're going thru could be related to the mix of meds like Lady50 said rather than post-menopause, esp. of you started taking the cholesterol and high-pressure meds about the time when you started feeling badly and now you're on the hypo med. Have your dr. been monitoring your high cholesterol and high pressure long enough to say you really need to be on meds for those things? I assume you have tried on your own by eating healthy, exercise, you since you lost weight too - did it make a difference in your readings?
I take Levoxyl 0.1 mg a mild hypothyroid med for years - never noticed any difference while taking it...sometimes I wonder if I really need it...
