View Full Version : Vertebral Artery Insufficiency...anyone???

Has anyone ever suffered from this. My chiro thinks I might has this. I have appt. with neuro on Tuesday. My symptoms: when in bed (laying on back) and I turn my head (mainly to the right), the blood seems to be blocked, not able to get to my head/brain, or maybe not able to get out. Not sure. I get a throbbing/pressure/full, sensation in my head. I have to position my head, and it goes back to normal. My neck muscles are very tense but chiro says it has nothing to do with these arteries, as they are inside the spinal column. Also, while standing, if I turn my head all the way to the right and wait a few seconds, my head will start shaking. Happens if I tip my head all the back also. I thought it was from something pressing on a nerve, but chiro says no, it's from lack of oxygen. Well anyway, I am very scared to go to neuro. Just wondered if anyone else has ever had this condition and what was done to help you. Thanks all.

Read rgraf8's reply to "pio". I could not have said it better myself. He explains it very well. The term " myofacial pain syndrome " was never mentioned to me, yet that is what I had. You need a neuro. who checks these trigger points.

hi,
my name is janet, i am 40 year old woman. i have vertebral/basilar insuffieciency. it can be a nasty thing if not treated. your neurologist can do some tests to diagnosis it like a doppler, mra and a cerebral angiogram. twisting your head isnt one of those tests. what im saying is dont worry untill its time to worry. also stay away from your chiropractor until you know for sure. they arent good for people with this. the neck manipulations they do will cause a stroke in someone who has insufficient blood flow to the back of their head. if you need to talk my email address is [removed].com
good luck
janet

Hi pink blazer,

I have other posts. About this arteiosclerosis, I also have some Hx. Doctors done an arteriogram 2=2=98 and found a 50-79% blockage in my left carotid in the bulb region.The right showed moderate narrowing 10-50% in the siphon area. Atop of this is extensive nuerological abnormalities. I have repeatedly asked if there may be some correlation with the two. I think it all relative, Doctors say no. Seems to me if the brain isn't getting enough blood flow to produce enough cerebral spinal fluid, would not the chord and nerve capilaries not be effected? The Chiari Malformation afflicted and those with shyringomyealyea are fluid flow effected! Any professional comments?

I was healthy untill 1 year ago. (im MALE 23)

The sypmtoms I currently have are chronic I always suffer this daily;

* feel light headed.
* feel detached, almost like what im living isnt real.
* Hands tingle.
* lips tingle.
* forehead tingles
* feet buzz
* my left shoulder has a dull pain.
* I get these major attacks. (if this goes away Ill be very happy). When ever I sit for a long time. Or EVERY TIME i go to the cinema, i get this warm feeling all over. I first had this and thought it was a heart attack. I had my heart checked and its ok?!?
* I wake up at night and my arms feel heavy and my heart is pounding. I sleep on my stomach and have my head facing to the left. When i feel this, i lay on my back and i feel better!

The reason why I write in the forum is that 6 months ago I coughed hard and hurt a cracking sound in my back. This followed by horrible pain. I couldnt move for 1 week as any movement would cause cramps in my back. The pain went away after 2 weeks and i was normal.(

I have slowly been feeling worse and now my hands and feet tingle.
I also have a dull head ache and my head feels so heavy.

What on earth is going on???

COuld i have pinched a nerve and maybe sitting down makes me feel hot and flustered??

It isnt a panic attack as when i first got it(it was about 5 weeks after i hurt my back) i was smiling and watching a football game on the TV.
