View Full Version : Diaper on 17 month old

This morning as I got my daughter up, I noticed all sorts of gel-like things laying in her crib. I went to change her, and noticed it was coming out from the top part of her diaper. So I looked on the package of diapers, and sure enough, it said "if you notice a gel-like substance on your baby's skin, don't be alarmed, it's just the diaper padding, and it will wipe right off". And it did wipe right off. But my concern is that with her being 17 months, everything goes in her mouth, and I am a little worried she might have eaten, or at least put in her mouth one of these little gel-like things. But I am assuming that if they have a note about it on the package, that it happens all the time, and that it isn't toxic or going to hurt babys. Anyone know anything about this?

It's funny, i had the same question with my 2 year old. I was noticing a lot of the jell stuff. I emailed the diaper company (pampers), they said it was non-toxic and wouldn't harm her.
What you can do if you just want to be 100% sure for your own peice of mind, go to the website, or there should be a toll free number on the side of the package of diapers, ask them.

Ok, this is gonna sound really gross most likely. But, I gotta. My son gets the gel out of his diaper on him some times, but if I ever thought for a minute that he was eating it I am afraid I would have to throw up. The reason that the gel is there, is because the diaper got too full, and it caused it to leak, rather then leaking the urine, that causes it to get over full in the first place, it leaks the gel substance that absorbs the urine in the diaper. Now call me wierd, but they say the gel is non-toxic. Sure it may not be made of toxic substances, but, don't you find it rather gross, that she may have ate urine soaked gel??????

It may be gross that she ate a tiny bead of the urine gel, but remember that urine is quite sterile.
