Hi, just got back the results of my pelvic sonogram. It showed two cysts on my left ovary. Has anyone else ever had this and how serious is it? Do they normally do anything for it, or just leave it. My doctor is referring me to a gynocologist, but not sure when yet. Any info. would be appreciated!

Hi,
most women have cysts...they are functional cysts and that is what "pops" when we ovulate.
Did they indicate what type of cysts you have? If they are functional and small, most docs will wait 2-3 cycles to see if they resolve on their own. Most do. If they are not functional cysts, then you may have other things to deal with.
I had a non-functional cyst on my right ovary...a dermoid tumor/cyst. These MUST be removed as they never resolve and if left alone stand a 2% chance of becoming cancerous.
My girlfriend had a cyst on her ovary that was the size of a grapefruit and didn't even know it. It had to be removed due to its size...but it was perfectly benign.
Good luck.

Thank you both for your quick responses! I am not sure the type of cysts nor the size. It all just really makes me nervous! It seems like it is just one thing after another. How depressing! Thanks again!
