I'm very frusterated with this problem.. I've looked every where for an answer. I'm 18 years old.. And for the past couple months I have had weird noises in the back of my head.. clicking/popping/draining noises. And In the morning it seems worse... when my stomach is empty.. It's hard to tell if they are causing any physical symptoms.. for one I have bad ankles which can cause me to lose balance.. and I also have manic depression which makes me feel detatched from my body at times. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Joey,
Try going to get a hearing test -- first see if they find pressure in your ears, if not, then ask them to test you for Tinnitus (tin I tus). I'm 34 and female and been told for years nothing was wrong with my ears UNTIL i went and had a hearing test done right in the doc's office, he got told he was very wrong, pressure was evident (it went away but comes back) and the noise is separate. Tinitus has no cure, but they have ways of helping you cope with it. One of mine is running a fan to sleep with. Check it out http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif

Joey,
I'm on this board to find more info about tinnitus... so I have a suggestion for ya...
Next time you go to the dentist, ask them about TMJ. They can feel around your jaw and see if it's out of whack - this can put you on the right track for treatment (or at least rule it out).
A possible cause for tinnitus (as someone with TMJ and Tinnitus) is that you might be having problems in the morning if you are grinding or clenching your teeth when you sleep. It's the joints and/or swelling in the jaw (TMJ) that may be causing pressure on the ears, which causes the ringing (tinnitus).
Or you can find a head/neck specialist that practices on TMJ patients... mine is a dentist who specializes in head/neck pain (and does NOT do the normal dentist routines - cleanings, fillings, etc). But he costs $250 per visit.
So, if you think that TMJ might be the cause of tinnitus, then there are options to reduce the ringing. Mine is taking glucosamine/chondroitin for the joints.
IF you have TMJ, there are many more alternatives... you can check them out at:

Best of luck!
