Hi I just recieved some bad news this week. I have a brain tumor. It is not cancerous, but it is in a bad spot. It is near the main blood vessel that supplies blood to the brain. It is a regrowth of a tumor that was removed. I am worried to say the least.

You will certainly be fine - given that the tumor is not malignant.

Lots of warm thoughts from somebody who is waiting on MRI results and scared out of her wits (despite doctor's reassurance that it is NOT a brain tumor but an ear infection).

I have read up on this topic though - and it appears that the benign tumors can be easily dealt with.

A major hug - and think of your spiritual figure. There are larger forces outside of this material world of ours, and the good ones are there to protect and care for us. Think of your angel - it will come to rescue.

Lots of love!

Hi aunteeker,

You and I are in the same boat. I too have a benign brain tumor that is completely encasing my carotid artery. What kind of tumor do you have? Mine is a pituitary tumor.

People don't seem to understand how serious a benign brain tumor can be. While benign brain tumors are not cancerous, they can still grow and cause major damage, loss of vision, or be life threatening because of the location.

I am fortunate that I am able to control my tumor with medication, and I'm hoping that surgery won't be necessary. Because of the location, the risk of surgery is too great, and they wouldn't be able to remove it all. So I am hoping the medication that I'm taking continues to work.

I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you will find a treatment that will work for you. Good luck and good health.

What symptoms led all of you to seek medical advice that discovered you had tumors? I'm a little worried about the symptoms. Thanks.

Saar1234,
I will be praying for your son. Please make sure you have a surgeon who does many of these operations and has a good track record. I don't know where you live, but there are some excellent pituitary surgeons and centers in this country (USA). In the right hands, your son will be just fine.

I posted to you before on another thread. I have corresponded with many people who have or have had pituitary tumors. The surgery is usually very successful. Your son's tumor is quite large and they may not be able to remove the whole tumor, but there are other treatments that can be used to take care of any tumor that remains. Do you know what kind of tumor your son has? There are many different kinds, depending on the hormone that the tumor produces or it may be a tumor that does not produce a hormone. If his tumor is the kind that produces prolactin (prolactinoma), the most common type, he may be able to take medication that will shrink any tumor that remains. Or for other types of tumor there is a non-invasive treatment called gamma knife which uses radiation focused directly on the tumor.

Please keep us posted. Here is a link to the pituitary Network association. It is an excellent resourse for pituitary patients: http://pituitary.org/

My tumor is kind of wrapped around the stem of my brain. It is involved with lots of nerves and blood vessels. It is a meningioma...sp... It isn't the tumor that is so scarey, it is the decision for the operation. I had such a terrible time recovering from the surgery before. I had a few residual conditions that have changed my life. The surgury itself was horrible. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong after surgury. I didn't think I even wanted to go on there for awhile..I just don't think my body can do another one. I have other health problems that make it harder for me to recoup. Anyway, thank you for replying to me, I was having a really bad day on the day that I wrote. Doing much better now.. Thanks again...

HI again, I am sorry I forgot to answer the question about the symptoms. I actually didn't have any noticable ones. I had a facial tick for about a month that was very noticable..It went away. I became very dizzy most of the time...still am... If I was just standing and closed my eyes, I would just tip over. Couldn't close my eyes and walk a straight line or take my finger and touch my nose. Actually found the tumor by accident when having an MRI on my shoulder. Lucky me!!!! Very Good Guardian Angel I might Add..!!!
