Hi there
I had a MIR done about 1 1/2 ago and the result was that I had a cyts close to putuary gland but the specalist said that were it was situated it was not doing any damage. Shorlty after that I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. I have problem with my mentruation cycle and also I only get partials seizure before and during my periods. Does anybody think that it as to do with my cyts. I need all the help and advice I could get.Thanks in Advance.Take Care.

Do you mean you had an MRI a year and a half ago? If that is the case, maybe the cysts have grown and you should have another MRI. I know a problem with the pituitary or thyroid can cause menstrual problems. I would also suggest trying the thyroid forum, they may be able to help you there too since the pituitary and thyroid problems can be related. It has been quite awhile since I have read up on it, I am hypo, but I believe the pituitary regulates your menstrual cycle. Good luck

Yes, the pituitary does affect the menstrual cycle. Often if there is a tumor(or cyst) in or pressing on the pituitary gland it causes prolactin to be elevated. Certain tumors called prolactinomas produce large quantities of this hormone. Also tumors pressing on the gland can cause what is called the "stock effect", which also elevates prolactin. When prolactin is elevated beyond a certain point, the body in affect thinks it is pregnant and the menstrual cycle stops or becomes very irregular.
Also, a tumor on or near the pituitary can also affect thyroid function, which could also affect menstration. I have never heard of a tumor on or near the pituitary causing seizures. So you need to do further investigation. Get a follow up MRI, and also see an endocrinologist to get all your hormone levels tested. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your replies I am going to get a MIR done pretty soon. Just question for Kamdem what is thyroid forum? The doctor does not think that the cyst is the cause of my seizures.I did EEG and it was not normal on the left side.Keep in Touch,and thanks again for your replies.
