My first time here- this seems a really good site. I have a question (one of many to come!) about peri-menopause. I'm 44 and my periods are often irregular now with much longer pre-menstrual symptoms and heavy bleeding. I was wondering if there's anything I can take or do for this grotty feeling when I'm over-due- I feel like my body wants to come on but can't, like I'm going to explode inside. You know, the off and on pains and swollen lethargic feeling? Any help would be appreciated- you'll all get sick of me in the weeks to come!

Hi te34resa,
Welcome to this board! Can't be of much help but just wanted to reassure you that it's normal to start having irregular periods and to start noticing changes, esp. at your age. Unless you're concerned about whether you're pregnant or not, I would let nature takes its course. You might want to keep a diary and see if there's a pattern going on as to when you get your period, how you feel, etc. With peri-meno, you can start feeling like you're going to get your period but you end up not getting it. Are you feeling bloated (is that what you mean by feeling like you're exploding inside?)?

hi molly, thanks for replying. Well, more than bloating it's sort of a feeling you get when you're just about to come on, the uncomfortable intermitent pain andlike my bodies waiting and nothing happens, does tat make sense?

Hi..
I will be 47 soon and have been having the symptoms you are having...Irregular bleeding, shorter and lighter periods, then heavier and longer ones...Also feeling the off and on pains, bloating, migraines, night sweats, anxiety, just miserable, etc....
I was dealing with it for a few years, but in Oct. I had my period (from light to heavy to just spotting and back again) the entire month...I couldnt take this and I felt constantly bloated and like crap...I went to gyn and started low dose birth control pills..This is my 2nd month on them and I am so much better..I dont bleed between periods and I know when I will get my period and when it will stop...The pains and other symptoms are much better too...
If its really bothering you, you might want to talk to your doctor about trying them..
Take Care
