Hi All,
Last night my gerd was so bad, I thought I was going to the hospital, the burning down my throat was so bad, I took a couple of pepcid, and was sucking on ice cubes all night. I get it once in awhile but this was the worse. I will take my meds for it, as I dont always take them for the gerd but after last night I will take them every day. It was like my chest was on fire.
Wish everyone a merry christmas

Hey Cookie!

I really understand what you went thru, it happens to me every great once in awhile if I forget to take my protonix that morning I've ran out for some reason. I know exactly how bad it burns and what I've found works best at those times is taking a teaspoon of regular old baking soda stirred into about six ounces of every warm water and drinking right down. The water should be warm, just cooler than too hot to drink or it doesn't work as well. It will make you belch a LOT but it will stop the acid, RIGHT NOW. I mean within a minute and will keep it from coming back for several hours. Give it a try next time. It doesn't taste good so you do have to slam it but the results are worth the effort. Lots of luck and Merry Christmas!

Hi Cookie,

Sorry to hear about your awful night. GERD can be the worst sometimes. I hate when it happens to me. Take care!

HI,
Thanks for the replys, I think my mother in law used to use baking soda for alot of things, I did not even think about that, but she used to swear by it .
I have had it on and off for the last couple of weeks, I have been taking previced, it seems to help, but some days I feel it starting in the back of my throat and it seems to clear up. But when it gets really inflammed, my left arm seems to get numb from my shoulder down to my hand, that makes me really nervous, then I take a valium. I am afraid to eat when it starts, because it burns so bad. But I thank you for the replys and I will remember the baking soda next time. I hope everyone had a great Christmas, mine was very good, hoping we all have a healthier year in 2005.
Thanks again
