Getting more exercise and/or a lot of fresh air should help. You could also try camomille tea and soft classical music before going to bed. If not classical music, you could go for a relaxation cd; something with ocean, rain and stream sounds on it. I got a tea by Celestial Seasonings called "Sleepy Time" and found it to be helpful up until my insomnia got really bad. A hot bath (as hot as you can stand it) with lavender scent added to it can help you relax more and get to sleep easier also.

There's a herbal remedy called Valerian Root, but I don't know how well it works, and you have to take it with caution.

Without my sleeping pills I will eventually fall asleep, but all I will do is "nap" and wake up after a few hours. I'll have trouble getting back to sleep, and then I'll "nap" for another hour or two.

Hi,
This is to ImagineLennon or anybody else who may know or have an answer. I've recently had an inner ear disorder "sudden hearing loss" which has created nothing but daily and nightly Panic and Anxiety attacks! I just finished my Predisone prescription and with the hearing loss not much better "at all" I find it impossible to fall asleep, or stay asleep due to the anxiety, stress and panic! I found that taking .25mg of Xanax finally helps me to kind of fall asleep, but I'm up two hours later with the same problem!
I don't want to become heavily dependant on the Xanax so I tried "VALERIAN" capsules which I take three tabs, three times a day as recommended. It kind of takes the edge off a bit during the day, but does'nt help me to fall asleep!! What are the dangers (if any) with Valerian root extract? I thought it was safe.

Thanks for any input on this!

I've done some investigations online about herbal supplements and the possible side effects and/or dangers of taking them. If you type "herbal side effects" into your search engine you should be able to find the information you're looking for.
