Hi, I have been taken Ambien 10 for a year and have been noticing that it doesn't work as well as it previously did. So, I was wondering how dangerous it would be to try and take another bill or even half of one to see how that works?
Thank you so much for you reply.

have you been taking it every night, you shouldnt do this, IMO
take it only occasionally
upping the dose will help for a while

Icywings, you should ask your doctor about this one. I've been taking half a tablet of Zopiclone 7.5mg for almost two years now and I find it to still be effective for me.
(yes, i know i shouldn't take it every night, but i do not sleep without it; and my doctor is fully aware of the fact that i take it every night.)

You should talk to you doctor about changing to a different med before taking a higher dosage. Ambien is supposed to be taken only short term. Hope this helps!

I agree with ImagineLennon, maybe ask your doc for a different prescription, such as Restoril. I'm also guessing Icywings knows you are not supposed to take Ambien everynight but sometimes it's the lesser of 2 evils when you're talkin' about sleep deprivation. I've been taking Ambien every night for 2 years. Would I prefer not to? Hells yeah! I started taking sleep meds because of being on Zoloft and now I can't sleep without it. Sucks. I need sleep though - I actually get a sick and flu-like feeling when I don't.

You could be developing tolerance. A dosage raise would temporarily help this but tolerance can develop to that. If you end up needing a very high dose or take more than the doctor prescribes, some docs define that as abuse or addiction (it is neither; it's physical dependancy and tolerance only) and may not give you anymore but what they deem safe, so you may run out before your prescription is to be refilled.
You could take other drugs but also tolerance could be a factor someday. It has been said that tranquilizers/sleeping pills can actually worsen a pre-existing insomnia condition.
I personally went through sleep pill tolerance(Ativan, a benzo simular to Ambien) and withdrawals. Amazing though, despite a very long process, I sleep better now than I did with pills. I take not one thing for sleep and am up to 6 hours a night. So there is hope.

Yeah, it's a bugger. I'm on sleep meds because of Wellbutrin and Effexor...plus I had insomnia even before I started those. Serzone has a bit of a sedative effect and I had troubles sleeping even when I was on that. Without Zopiclone I will sleep, but it will take a long time and it won't last long enough. I just nap without it...two hours here, three hours there, maybe half an hour later on...it's not good enough to make me feel rested and I'd be in bed 24/7 just trying to get 6-8 hours of sleep.
