I know you can get "cravings" and lose taste for previous food that you once loved if pregnant because of hormones, but can you get it with perimenopause?? I lOVED chicken, could eat it 7 days a week, but about a month ago I just lost my taste for it, if I make it for my family I won't even eat it! Also I never liked fish, and now I seem to crave it! If I make my family chicken, I'll eat fish!! What's THAT all about?? (PS I'm 46 and DEFINITELY not pregnant).

Sunlover, thanks for this post...I was beginning to think I was the only person going through perimenopause with a total change in appetite and food cravings. I also use to eat ALOT of chicken, now the thought is almost nauseating. A matter of fact I find fish and most meats almost repulsive. I also don't like to eat many carbohydrates...you'd think I would be skinny, but I'm far from being petite. Lately, for over a month, I've eaten mostly oatmeal, nuts, some veggies, orange juice and eggs. BTW I'm 44 years young :).
Hopefully, some others will echo the same finding.

Wow,this is the first I heard of other people with the same problem with the change of tastes! Thanks for the input! Only thing is, I lost weight because I do have a problem with anxiety and nerves and I also have heartburn and the loss of appetite part I blame on the anxiety (if I take a Xanax before I eat I eat a normal amount, but I don't like to take a Xanax too often).

I have to say WOW too. I never in my life would eat fish. Now that is all I want. I too was a big chicken eater and now I can even taste it. I didn't think this was connected to perimenopause. I also have been eating cottage cheese which if I ate before I would gag now I eat it and its doesn't seem like the same food. Now if I could feel the same way about sweets my weight troubles would be a lot less. Linda

A good friend said that she had this same experience after her hysterectomy. Hmmmm...
