View Full Version : Precautions at age 51

Hi Everyone!
I have only posted once before, but read every day! Thank you
all for your input! If this question sounds like a blonde question...
well, consider the source! :) Never having children, I havent
worried about getting pregnant. I am making some life changing
decisions....middle age crazies perhaps?? If somewhere along the
way, I meet someone again and start over with a relationship,
what precautions pertaining to pregnancy do I need to address?
I have been on the bcp for about 2 years, which was wonderful
for me! I stopped taking it in August just to see where my period
or no period might be. I went for 3 months w/o a period, had
one at Thanksgiving. Two weeks later had some more bleeding,
for about a day......since then, it has been spotting off and on.
Where do I go from here? My gyn said I could take the pill until
next year.....should I go back on it? I was taking Mircette, the only
change I noticed after stopping it was I didnt seem to have as
many headaches as before. Thanks again for any help!!!!

Hi Happysmom53!
When I found myself in that situation, I used the vaginal contraceptive film, its not messy at all like the foam stuff was...but I'm also still having regular periods so I can more or less gauge when I'm ovulating. You could also use the old standby condom, but I've found that at our age men either think we're "done with all that" or rebel at using a condom. I haven't had to think on this subject for over a year....gawd I need to get out more!!!! lol
Happy New Year!!
Conni :)
