View Full Version : Afraid of having an aneurysm (Please read and comment)

I woke up this morning with a pretty bad headache. I went to the hospital and they just gave me Tylenol and sent me home. The headache had actually started to subside while I was at the hospital, before the Tylenol, and I'm sure the Tylenol helped. What I'm concerned about is now I'm feeling a sense of "pressure" in my head. Not much, actually it's pretty mild, but it's there. I'm also very fatigued and having trouble concentrating. What's more, my eyes seem to be having trouble focusing, and I'm a bit nauseous. I guess what I'm asking is can the pain from an aneurysm related headache go away on it's own or not? I know I have severe anxiety, and that's probably what this is. But it would just help to know for sure. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad migrane. Sorry you are felling so poorly. If an aneursym bursts, your headache would not subside with or without tylenol. I am assuming that they did a full neuro check on you at the hx?

Nope. HX here is terrible. Looked at me, gave me Tylenol, and sent me off.

Hey Seraphiscain

I seem to be in the same boat as you. I posted mine in the Headaches forum. Last night, I had a very bad, painful headache with nausea and dizziness. I searched the web and found info on aneurysms, and I pretty much panicked. I think the anxiety made my symptoms worse, but it was already very painful. I took an Advil and eventually the pain subsided.

I read that the pain from an aneurysm that has ruptured does not go away, and the person's condition very rapidly declines to the point where a bystander or the person themself will call 911. However, I did read about sentinel headaches (which pretty much added more to my anxiety). Sentinel headaches are supposedly warning leaks that happen before the actual rupture. They are very similar to the actual rupture in terms of pain and symptoms, but are generally milder and therefore a lot of times dismissed as a regular headache. I've read conflicting info on this and am still trying to figure it all out. Some sources say that a sentinel headache is continuous or transient, but does not go away until the rupture occurs. Other sources (this is the scary one) say that a sentinel headache happens once, and then the person is fine until days or weeks or even months later when the "real" rupture happens. This had me freaked out.

I'm currently just taking it slow and seeing if anything comes up. If your symptoms keep happening you should go back to the hospital and ask for a head CT scan just to be safe. That's what I would do, but unfortunately I can't at this point.

Good luck.

Heh, so you searched the web and found aneurysm info too, huh? Yeah, same thing I did. Sometimes I swear the internet is the cause of my anxiety. *lol*

Have either of you thought of these being chronic migraines? Mirgaines can cause more symptom sthan just your typical awful headache. They can induce naseau, vomiting, dizziness, and all around just suck! Give that some consideration and visit your regular physician and ask them the liklihood of suffering from migraines. They are more common then most people think adn have more symptoms than just a pain in your head.

Aneurysm are yes also a possibility. However, not as likely as a general headache. The only real determining facotr here to see if you have any brain abnormalities would to have a CT SCAN or MRI. (And trust me, they're not that fun!) If you have af amily history of it, then I'd raise concern. If you have such severe pain where you're unable to function normally, then see your doctor. Otherwise.. your stress adn anxiety could be bringing on even more headaches for you.. So try and breath easy.

If it comforts either of you. I was diagnosed a year ago, with a brain abnormality. A cavernous aginoma in my brain, extra clusters of blood cells, that could leak, burst, causing severe damage, terminate my breathing capabilities, etc. And for awhile, I would worry everytime I had a headache in that area.. Until I realized. my worry, was causing more stress headaches and anxiety more than anything else. I can't stop what may occur inthe future. I just don't recommend wasting precious minutes in which you could be enjoying life! :) Good luck and go with your gut!

i suffer from daily headaches. i used to think that oh my gosh i have a tumor or i know its an aneurysm. i had to cts and an mri, and everything was ok. my doc said if you had an aneurysm the pain would not go away and your vitals would decline fast. plus he told me that people with aneurysms are usually born with them. i would not worry. i know better said than done. i suffer from anxiety over my health. good luck , and i know there is probably nothing to worry about.

I had an unruptured aneurysm clipped about 7 months ago and what lead me to have an MRI was headaches, however the headaches were not related to the aneurysm as it was not leaking or bleeding. I'm glad I found it. If you are truly worried about this talk with your doctor. I still have headaches which are likely migraines and I still worry about them but it is true that the pain of an aneurysm rupturing would be "the worst headache" you've ever had. The internet can make anxiety worse by fueling the fears (I know). Take care

Hi Mayansun
What do you mean they clipped it???? Where exactly was it??? They've just found one on my husband's Carotoid Artery (small, but he had a sister who died of a burst one) . We are waiting to see the Specialist. How big was yours and where was it???? Tx Karon
