 I was diagnosed last week and I am still reeling. I thought my test would come back normal, I have taken care of myself, made sure I had enough calcium and soy in my diet, stopped smoking eight years ago, dont take in any caffine and am very healthy. My doctor was very surprised also which made me feel even worse. My choices were actonel, fosomax and hrt. I chose the hrt because I wanted to ease some of the menopausal symptoms I was having. Now I am not so sure i made the right choice. My lumbar T score was -1.28, my hip T-score was -1.99 and my Wards triangle was -3.25. I was so stunned when she explained it all to me I missed the explaination. I have been trying to find information and any support from others. My questions are many, one am I doing the right thing by not going on fosomax or actonel? And what do my scores mean? I see T-scores all the time but not the wards triangle. Any help would be appreciated. I am compiling a list of questions for my doctor when I go back, although I may just call her if I still feel unsure.
Thanks for any help

t-scores:
0 is normal
-1.0 to -2.5 is osteopenia
-2.5 and below is osteoporosis
How old are you? Most likely it's genetic. I am 34 (very healthy), my hips are -1.4 and my spine is -2.5. I am currently not taking any medication. Just diet and exercise. My sister is ten years older with about the same t-scores when diagnosed and she has seen improvement with diet and exercise alone.
I freaked when I first found out as well, but since have realized it is genetic and not as bad as I had initially suspected. I have to wait a year before I get another scan and see if I am improving.
Good luck :)

:) Thanks for your support. I am 54, both my aunts had the hump but my mom was ok. Do you know what the wards triangle numbers mean? That is what I am trying to find out. They seem so low and I guess that is what scares me.

I believe it (Wards Triangle) refers to the femoral neck, that skinny part at the end of the femur in the hip area. The knobby part that inserts into the joint would be at the top of the neck. I think you would have to actually look at a picture to see what I mean if you are not familiar with anatomy.
ps: I would get a copy of The Myth of Osteoporosis and then see if you still feel as scared as you do now.
