About three months ago I stepped down from about a six inch platform and got a sharp pain in my ankle joint along the top of my foot. Soon the pain went away. There was no swelling or bruising. However, the same sharp pain comes back when I over extend my foot from front to back, such as, when walking down stairs. If I continue to strain the ankle, playing basketball, the pain is noticeable when just walking. I can here/feel a popping along the top of my foot when I rock my foot up and down. Any ideas on what the cause might be? Should it heel on its own? I think it is fine and play a game of basketball, and then have the same problem. How long should I be gentle to allow it to fully heal? I have been careful with it for at least 3 weeks with the problem returning.
Ps I am 39 y.o. male.

I would suggest that you not to any high impact sports while you have this problem. Thngs like running and jumping can be very hard on the leg and foot joints. I would see if it heals by itself and if you still have it next week then I would drop by the doctors office to see what he thinks. That is if you would avoid high impact sports for a week and see how it feels.

I would make an appt with your doc to have this properly evaluated. You could have caused a structural problem to occur.you also need an x ray to see if there are any noticable problems with the bones.it does not sound like you actually caused any tissue damage as it did not swell or bruise. But if there is a broken or chipped bone(and there are MANY bones in the foot and ankle)you will have to give it some time to heal.any healing will take much longer than the three weeks that you gave it.You really do need to find out any problems now or you could end up paying for it later.see your doc.Marcia
