I have to have root canal surgery tomorrow. My husband said it took him 9 hours to have root canal surgery. 3 - 3 hour visits. I don't know how many years ago it was. Does it usually take more than 1 visit still?

Sponsor maisy309 12-28-2004, 04:35 PM I have had about 5 root canals and none of them have taken over an hour to have done and that includes numbing time. norrell 12-28-2004, 06:18 PM If you are going to an endodontist, a root canal specialist it will NOT take that long. It's usually about 45 min per tooth if all goes well and no complications. If you go to someone less experience or a general dentist it may take longer. My advice is if it's a multi-root tooth you are better off going to an endodontist. Though there are some general dentist who are well qualified to do multi root canals. maisy309 12-28-2004, 06:29 PM I always had my regular dentist do my root canals. Last year, I had to have an apico done, so I went to an endodontist for the first time. Last month I had to have another root canal and had my endodontist do it. I really like my dentist, but from now on, I will always use an endodontist for rc's. I felt more at ease and you can tell that it is something that he does all the time. susieq52 12-28-2004, 07:38 PM thanks everyone, I am going to a endodontist. My husband had his done last year at the same place. I think there was more involved with his root canal. You've all eased my mind. Maybe his wasn't even a root canal. Maybe it was something more involved but he keeps telling me it was a root canal. susieq52 01-03-2005, 02:22 PM I had the root canal surgery with no problem. My husband wasn't trying to scare me or anything. He just didn't explain it as well as he should have. I started seeing another dentist a couple of years ago after being with the other one for 20 years. Everything he did to me hurt and I told him about the problem I was having with the tooth I had to have a root canal done on. If I had of switched doctors a long time ago I probably wouldn't have had to go through a root canal. It's only the second one I had to have in 20 years. I don't have any pain with this dentist. |
