Whenever I need to wake up early the next morning, my body doesn't allow me to sleep at night. What I mean by that is, I do feel tired, but my body just doesn't let me sleep. And if I do fall asleep, I will wake up every hour or so to check the clock and see what time it is. And the worst thing is, if I have to wake up at 7am, and I wake up around 5 or 6, I can't fall asleep anymore because I somehow feel that I won't be getting many hours of sleep anyways so there's really no point in going back to sleep. This is horrible. What can I do?

Hi hollandlop,

I'm going through something similar. Finding it hard to get to sleep and then all I really do is doze off for a few minutes.

I went through the same thing a couple years ago and was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I've made some dr. appts in case it's coming back.

What I did the first time this happened was seek therapy and take Paxil (look into this very carefully - I'll be happy to answer any Paxil questions you might have). I also took Ambien for awhile until the Paxil kicked in.

It was a very difficult time and I'm not looking forward to a repeat of it, but I feel like at least now I know what to do.

Call the dr. if you haven't already and don't be afraid to seek counseling.

Take care,

Buzz

Whoa! Dont offer Paxil advice mostly because of the withdrawl side effects that many people go through. You dont want to use paxil just to find out that you cant take it because of the side effects and THEN find out that when you go off paxil the withdrawl effects ruin your life...... I know, it took 2 years out of my life and i am now in a class action against the manufaturer.

I think a doc is the best person to decide whether or not Paxil (or any medication) is the right choice. Certainly many people have used Paxil with excellent results, and many have had bad outcomes. Everyone is different, and I don't think you can make blanket statements as to whether a drug is good or bad for everyone.

I think Buzzsaw is right. This doesn't sound like a sleep disorder so much as an anxiety disorder. If you sleep okay when there is nothing going on the next morning, the problem is probably not with your sleep. I think you are just nervous or anxious about whatever is going to happen, or you are afraid of being late, and that causes you to sleep poorly.

If you are having this much trouble, it is time to see a doc. I am sure you will be able to get some help.

Good luck.

Yeah, i guess your right..... so go ahead, take the Paxil. Who cares about whether or not a person is at risk of developing debilitating symptoms from the use or withdrawl of Paxil. Your Right! All that matters is taking care of the current symptoms that pague you. I appreciate your blanket statement slamming people LIKE ME who are warning about paxil. For all your Paxil takers out there, dont worry. All the complaints about paxil will never take the drug off the market....... um, yes they were finally forced to put SUICIDE warning on the labels.... but they only did it after being FORCED to do it. All i can say to you is SHUT tht hell up!

I am sorry you have had such a bad outcome with Paxil.

All meds have potential risks, some much more serious than others. If someone's current symptoms are in fact a plague to them, it might be worth assuming those risks. I continue to believe that only your doctor can best advise you as to whether or not the risk to possible reward ratio is worth it in your particular case.

Good luck.
